John Muir Health was formed in 1997 when our two medical centers merged. Creation of John Muir Health ensures that comprehensive, high-quality health care services remain in the community. Here's a little more on these two great medical centers.

John Muir Medical Center, Walnut Creek

John Muir Medical Center, Walnut Creek is a 572-licensed bed hospital that is designated as the only trauma center for Contra Costa County and portions of Solano County. We are recognized as one of the region's premier healthcare providers, areas of specialty include high- and low-risk obstetrics, orthopedics, neurosciences, cardiac care, and cancer care. John Muir Medical Center, Walnut Creek is accredited by The Joint Commission (TJC), a national accreditation program of hospitals and other health care organizations.

John Muir Medical Center, Concord

John Muir Medical Center, Concord is a 267-licensed bed hospital that serves Contra Costa and southern Solano counties. The medical center has long been recognized as a preeminent center for cancer care and cardiac care, including open heart surgery and interventional cardiology. Other areas of specialty include general surgery, orthopedic, and neurology programs. John Muir Medical Center, Concord is accredited by The Joint Commission (TJC), a national surveyor of quality patient care.


John Muir Health's network of outpatient facilities include physical therapy and occupational therapy centers, as well as specialty pediatric, womens' health, and diabetes centers. The system also includes medical imaging centers and the MuirLab division, which performs a full range of clinical and anatomic pathology laboratory testing at more than a dozen locations.
