productive
STORE MANAGER/SALES (Former Employee), Normal, IL –
Pros: everyday is not the same, always busy, automatic deposits
Cons: micro managed, no bonus when promised 1, no work life balance
I was always productive. In retail there is never any down time. Always Merchandising, selling on the floor and paperwork to do.
I had a great staff. The hardest part of this job was taking over a store that was on a watchlist and had employee issues.

The best part was being able to turn the store and staff around to getting the watchlist by increasing – more...  sales 21% and changing the staffs attitude by excelling in customer service. – less

Unprofessional
Sales Exec. (Former Employee), San Jose, CA –
Pros: 30-1 hr lunchs
Cons: rules change at any given notice
I worked here for almost a year and had a few incidences where i had been told one thing but then when it came down to it the rules changed. For example I had been told for this almost year if I didnt make two months in a row I would get written up but I wound up missing one month and was written up. Also when I had been physically pushed by another – more...  coworker my regional manager took only my coworkers side (she said i threatened her) and decided to write me up. I believe that is very unproffesional for any comp[any and especially one that is nation. – less

great product, management erratic. Coworkers not always professional
Sales Executive (Current Employee), Charlottesville, VA –
Pros: great customer base
Cons: tough retail market
Loved what I did and the clients. Sold mens clothing to professionals in community. Learned sales techniques and product knowledge. Management erratic either top down or apathetic. Coworkers depended on individuals. Very diverse group. Hardest part of job was dealing with small store dynamics. Most enjoyable part was serving customers.

Fine Mens Clothing Experts
Manager (Current Employee), Buckhead, GA –
Pros: good benefits
Cons: long hours, low compensation, management disconnect
A great place to find men's clothing at a reasonable price. The hours can be long with few if ever weekends off. Compensation depends on sales and productivity. Great customers, but not a well managed company. They concentrate more on the bottom line and less on the morale of their employees. Can make for a difficult work environment

No corporate culture
Manager (Former Employee), Northern California –
Pros: quality merchandise
Cons: no leadership, culture or values
The pay's good (for retail) and the benefits are adequate but employees are viewed as a necessary evil. The turnover particularly among management is astounding. In a meeting of 12 managers there wasn't 20 years worth of experience working at Jos. A. Bank. Their sales philosophy is driven entirely by marketing and demonstrates an utter lack of faith – more...  in their work force. – less

You can't have it all!!!
Department Manager (Former Employee), Houston, TX –
Pros: hard to get fired and no one bothers you
Cons: low commissions, expensive benefits, poor upper management, store closes at 9pm and its retail.
Truthfully not the worst place to work, however its hard to make enough money with their current commission system.
You basically have to live for Christmas to make your money which sucks because the rest of the time you may not be making enough money. No serious complaints because its not the worst job if you need to work, but economically you can't – more...  plan on staying there. – less
