Journey's Manager
Store Manager (Former Employee), Arlington, VAJuly 15, 2014
Slow Mornings.
I've learned how to compose schedules, hire a good team, monitor inventory.
I've worked with many different people.
The hardest part of my job was working with sneaky managers that lied and treated people unfairly.
The most enjoyable part of my job was seeing the satisfaction of customers

❸ Seasonal Sales Associate (Former Employee), Woodbridge, NJJuly 6, 2014
Pros: nothing
Cons: the entire job
I cleaned the store, folded clothes, greeted customers, sized up customers (figured out their shoe size and what kind of shoes they were into), cleaned the stock room, rung customers up on the register, answered phone calls, did online sales/orders, added items onto customers orders at the register or on the sales floor, and was always on top of my – more... sales especially when I had multiple customers.

Was hired as a part time sales associate, but after the holiday's they told me I was seasonal and laid me off, which I'm pretty sure is illegal. – less

Positive environment and enjoyed working with other members.
Sales Associate (Former Employee), Albuquerque, New MexicoJune 12, 2014
Pros: discount on store items, occasional free lunches.
Cons: not enough hours
A typical day at work involved greeting customers with our latest sales and any help they would need. Being quick on your feet was a must for the job, which I feel I met. I learned how to restock the shoes in the back based on a numerical system along with categorizing the type of shoes, I learned how to use the ladders, I also learned the 4 shoe box – more... system to which you are supposed to bring out to the customer. Management was well. I got along great with my managers. My co-workers were always bringing positive energy to the work place and I never encountered a problem with them. The hardest park of the job was having to get/restock shoes from the very top shelf without falling off the ladder. The most enjoyable part of the job was seeing customers very relieved and happy when they got the pair of shoe/shoes they desired. – less

Part time job for someone in high school
Sales Associate (Former Employee), Westlake, OHJune 6, 2014
Pros: great discount on name brand shoes
Cons: everything else.
This company is so poorly managed. Sure, you can advance, but advancing means only one day off a week, and one Sunday a month off. That's it. There is no work/life balance. I worked seasonally for this company for around two to three years to supplement my income while in school. I could have advanced, but chose not to because I saw what my managers – more... and co-managers went through. I mention in the title that this is a good part time job for someone in high school. I say this because the hours are not steady. You could be scheduled for 25 at the start of the week, but if sales aren't going well for whatever reason, you could end up with zero. I have worked retail for over ten years and no other company would do that to that extent. It's appalling. – less

Sales Associate (Former Employee), Florence, SCJune 6, 2014
Pros: great staff
Going in to work at Journey's was almost as if I was going to spend time with friends and sell shoes. Over the years working there my co workers became my family. The entire staff including most of the managers and district managers that I have met through this company are also amazing. Even though I was part-time the benefits will satisfy any young – more... person. Discounts on awesome shoes, free tickets to several concerts, and not to mention great prizes from the several contest held within the company. Journey's is a great company and I respect their values. – less

Average retail experience with some splash
Co-manager (Current Employee), WyomissingJune 3, 2014
Pros: great discount, up-to-date music on dvds, great customer interactions
Cons: standards of performance, pay rates
The experience at Journeys is nothing greater than or less than your average retail work experience. There are definitely some perks to employment, but unless you're employed on the corporate level, the standards of performance and the hours and work you put into the store far exceed the compensation. Journeys is unique in the range of customers that – more... come in, due to the wide range of styles and brands they carry, and the slogan "An attitude you can wear" is an apparent theme, reflected heavily in the mixed genres of music that can be heard with accompanying music videos at every location. – less

Retail Assistant Manager for a shoe store.
Sales Associate (Current Employee), Pineville, North CarolinaMay 28, 2014
Pros: health insurance
Cons: short breaks
While working with retail may be irrelevant, I have gained a huge sense of professionalism. My employment status allowed me to get a promotion from a part timer to an assistant manager. I was the youngest employee in that company to earn a promotion. I would take that professionalism with me if offered an internship and/or employment position.

Co-Manager (Former Employee), Jacksonville, NCApril 28, 2014
I was quite fortunate to come across a new opportunity to work with a great team at Journey's in the Jacksonville Mall. The on and off foot traffic of customers, as well as the continuous flow of inventory, created bountiful productive days. The staff I worked with made for an enjoyable work environment, pumping positive energy through the store and – more... to our customers. – less

Fun place to work
Store Manager (Current Employee), Harrisburg, PAApril 10, 2014
Pros: freedom to express creativity through clothing, music, ect
Cons: full time employees do not get much rest between work
Journey's is a great place to work as a teenager and even as a young adult. The atmosphere is light and fun. I've become stronger in my leadership skills because of this job and I am appreciative of that. I have some of the most awesome employees working for me and it makes me love my job; however I do not love it all the time. There are some things – more... in higher management I would love to change but that is out of my hands. I do not think it is fair that full time employees are only allotted one day off each week after working 50+ hours each week. It's too much for us to handle. We work hard and we deserve more than one day per week. I believe the hardest part of my job is the lack of flexibility in my schedule. I do not have the option to make my own schedule or have certain days off for important events or religious events. The best part of my job is definitely the people I work with and my customers, they are the best and I couldn't ask for a greater team. – less

fun work place, no time for personal life
Store Manager (Former Employee), TampaApril 7, 2014
Pros: discount, can wear whatever you want, growth within company
Cons: upper management, hours, pay, no personal life, only one day off a week, high turnover
Loved working there because of the discount and people. There is plenty room for growth in this company. I became a SM after 3 months of being a co. The upper management is not very reliable, honest, or trust worthy. The hours are ridiculous. You only get paid to sell so when you pull doubles, the hour you open and close are free labor.
