The company provides administrative services to subsidiary HealthCare Partners Medical Group, which operates more than 65 medical practices in Los Angeles and surrounding areas. Its JSA Healthcare unit provides primary care and pharmacy services at some 40 facilities in central Florida while its HealthCare Partners of Nevada unit operates 45 facilities around Las Vegas. Change in Company Type
DaVita's acquisition of HealthCare Partners was completed in November 2012 through a merger transaction worth some $4.4 billion. Following the deal, HealthCare Partners became an operating subsidiary of DaVita, and DaVita changed its legal name to DaVita HealthCare Partners. (The dialysis operations continue to operate as DaVita.) Through the merger, DaVita expanded its operations into general practice care; the company plans to further grow through HealthCare Partners' team-based coordinated care model.
HealthCare Partners works by supporting its physician groups provide coordinated care to patients from the basics of self-management and health education up through management of chronic diseases and multiple conditions. For high-risk patients, the company operates intensive clinics. Pilot programs have included adding hospitalist programs to coordinate care during hospitalization, and personalized at-home care for frail patients. In addition to its primary care networks, the company also offers medical consulting services through The Camden Group.
Mergers and Acquisitions
Since its founding in 1992, HealthCare Partners has built itself up through regional acquisitions and organic growth in chosen markets. To move beyond its home base in Southern California, in 2006 the company acquired HealthCare Partners of Nevada (formerly known as JSA's Pinnacle Health System) and JSA Healthcare (Florida).
Even after the announcement of its agreement with DaVita, the company has continued acquiring local medical groups at a steady clip. It expanded into New Mexico with the purchase of ABQ Health Partners in September 2012.
