A manager must have a complete knowledge of the firm’s philosophy and be conversant with its
reports, its letters relating to matters of policy, and its opinions on financial matters. They must
maintain their expertise in current professional practice. To make broad decisions in the course
of their work, they must have a knowledge of general economic and political trends and of
possible tax or other legislation that could affect the business climate.
Managers are the liaison between partner, client, audit staff and the special service departments;
they generally are responsible for all phases of an engagement. By using their talents in staff
management and by projecting and planning the timing of the work load, the managers are
expected to promote the most efficient operation of the firm. They should schedule preliminary
work at advantageous times, using available staff personnel.
One of the most important responsibilities is developing a responsible and trained staff. They
should assist in recruiting, developing training aids, and acting as instructors in professional
development programs. By daily planning assignments, resolving problems, and through
discussions with personnel, the managers should develop close relationships that aid them in this
task.
Managers should constantly broaden their outside associations to promote the best interests of
the firm. They will, in all likelihood, take an active role in professional, civic, or charitable
organizations. They may be called upon to deliver talks and to write articles for publication.
Also, their conscientious attitude in working with existing clients, and their respect for them as
individuals, can have great potential value for them and the firm.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
1. Technical
A. Review medium to advanced individual and business tax returns
B. Review the successful completion and accuracy of clients accounting information and
financial statements
C. Communicates with other team leaders and partners on the timely completion of projects
D. Practices effective oral and written communication skills
E. Achieves budgeted time goals, utilizes available staff and provides informal and formal
training Ex: Chargeable time
F. Sign individual and business tax returns
G. Perform various tax and miscellaneous research project

2. Client Service
A. Perform client contact regarding tax and accounting questions
B. Coordinate client contact for completion of accounting and tax projects
C. Manages the client relationship to include: Ex: tax planning, project completion, special projects

3. Administrative
A. Complete time sheet entry on a daily basis
B. Complete weekly summary of work in progress and work plan
C. Identify continuing education classes for technical placement
D. Functions in team environment in department and overall firm
E. Performs billing responsibilities
F. Recommends tax periodicals and research products

4. Marketing
A. Participate in company and marketing functions
B. Pursue marketing activities and opportunities
C. Identify expanded services with existing clients
D. Identify and pursue prospects for new business
E. Initiate and participate in planning of marketing activities
F. Take an active role in professional, civic, or charitable organizations
G. Prepare and deliver presentations on various applicable topics

5. Training
A. Work with staff to be resource for questions
B. Identify and coordinate training needs of department
C. Identify training needs of department
D. Provide on going informal training for tax and accounting topics
E. Provide formal training for tax and accounting topics

6. Supervisory Duties
A. Function as a team leader
B. Develop and implement department goals
C. Identifies and delegates projects
D. Recommends and participates in staffing requirements Ex: recruiting, interview, hire, and performance reviews

7. Miscellaneous
A. Performs such other related duties as may be necessary

Education/Experience Reg.: AA Accounting degree, BA or BS Accounting major
generally 8+ years public accounting firm experience plus
meet supervisor requirements and CPA certification
