Against my better judgment and the advice of numerous legal recruiters who've worked with this firm in the past I accepted their less than generous offer and began what can only be described as the worst work experience in my professional career.
There's no structure or training and you will receive little to no help when you start, yet you are expected to know all of the firm's policies and procedures. It's sink or swim, with the system set up in such a way that no matter what you do will eventually sink.
Partners and senior associates are either hostile, abusive, or demeaning towards junior associates and staff or completely anti-social or passive aggressive. Constant blame game with partners throwing associates and staff under the bus and associates throwing staff under the boss for their own shortcomings. Partners will spare no opportunity to demean or degrade you when you fail to follow their vague directions.
If happen to draw the ire of one of the partners you will be the target of constant abuse until you either resign or get fired. They will seize upon any mistake as a chance to run to HR and complain in the hopes of building their case against you.
Furthermore, most of the partners and senior associates are either lazy, incompetent, or both. They will always pass the buck. Never missing an opportunity to pawn off work to their assistants and paralegal, yet billing for that time.
Corporate in New York is well aware of the problems as the Los Angeles office is a constant revolving door of hard working talented staff and associates who quickly become disillusioned with the firm, yet they willfully turn a blind eye as long as those same hostile, abusive partners continue to bring in new business and continue to the line the pockets of the managing partners.
To top it off they're extremely cheap. Their salaries are well below the market average. They also refuse to update their software and purchase essentials like Legal Solutions, Adobe Pro, and Relativity. Instead most of your time will be consumed with their outdated obscure software like Net Docs and Gaaiho.
This has to be the worst law firm to work for in the greater Los Angeles area, if not the worst.
Take my advice and stay away.
