The workplace culture at Kenyon is comfortable, professional and casual at the same time. Much of my day is spent processing accounts payable for the facilities department. I also reconcile purchasing cards, act as a vendor liaison and manage our office.
As a senior I worked full time over the summer of 2012, and part-time throughout the school year, interviewing prospective students for admisison to Kenyon. A typical day involved conducting 4-5 interviews with students from all over the country and world, answering questions by parents, and conducting tours of campus if requested. My co-workers were admissions counselors as well as classmates. Incredibly enjoyable job.
These are jobs for student workers, and many people would like some sort of income while on campus so it's hard to get many hours. It just depends on what you're doing. The college works hard with students to find some sort of job if desired. Management is strict but easy to work with.
Landscaper (Former Employee) – Gambier OH – July 14, 2013
I loved Kenyon college. If you know anything about landscaping and need a summer job, i highly recommend seeking this one out. You spend your day with a partner and usually drive around the college to your assigned areas and mow.
Fun place to work at and employees are easy to get along with.
Lifeguard (Former Employee) – Gambier, OH – April 10, 2013
Hard working job, constantly moving and trying to get food prepped before the either the Wedding started, or breakfast, lunch, or dinner was served. Learned a lot with in Kitchen work and how to work fast but efficiently. Sometimes get home late from taring down and cleaning. Hard to get hours. Co-workers are great.
Desktop Support Technician (Former Employee) – Gambier, OH – January 31, 2013
You are on a college campus and whether a student or employee, you are treated with respect. I was kept abreast of all new software and was afforded the ability to enhance my skills as a desktop support technician. The hardest part of the job was rechecking work because of a user error. Team parties and training seminars were the most enjoyable parts of the job.
