5TH grade English Language Arts Teacher (Former Employee) –  Houston, TXJune 14, 2016
Working at KIPP Houston was one of my most rewarding experiences as an educator. I began my teaching career with this district and experienced considerable growth personally and professionally. It was a very rigorous program, for students and teachers. The philosophy of team and family was a concept that was lived through the students and the teachers.

Great work with culture but extended hours and extra work days
Teacher (Former Employee) –  Houston, TXMay 23, 2016
Good school system, too long work hours and extra work days as well as a high turnover rate. Not worth the hassle. Save yourself the time and effort looking at a ISD school. This is a non contact job position.

Substitute Teacher (Current Employee) –  Houston, TXSeptember 29, 2015
Working for KIPP is such a great opportunity, the main objective of this school is for every child to succeed no matter the economic or social background. The teachers and administration all have the same goal in mind: get every child to college and in turn create successful young adults. Love that everyone is on the same page here.

Business Manager (Former Employee) –  Galveston, TXApril 18, 2014
Pros – The mission and values (giving all students access to excellent education that will get them to and through college) are shared by all the teachers, creating a strong sense of community and fostering close relationships with coworkers. You are also given almost complete autonomy over your work, which has drawbacks and benefits.

Cons – The compensation, especially considering the work/life balance, is not great. The hours are already longer than a normal school day, and the lack of direction from administrators means you will spend even more time working off the clock to prepare. Some schools focus almost exclusively on raising test scores rather than holistic education.
