Pucker up -- Kiss My Face is widening its reach into mainstream markets and riding the wave of the popularity of organic products. The company makes and markets more than 200 natural personal-care products that are sold in nearly 20 countries. Its products include toiletries, such as bar soap, deodorant, shampoo, and toothpaste, as well as household products, including candles, canvas bags, and cold and flu room spray. Kiss My Face products are sold through the company's website, through specialty shops, and natural products stores, such as the Vitamin Shoppe and Whole Foods in the US and Yeauty in Germany. The company was founded by Bob MacLeod and Steve Byckiewicz in the 1980s.
To bolster growth for Kiss My Face, Los Angeles-based investment firm Caltius Equity Partners invested in the natural products company in late 2010. As part of the deal, Kiss My Face added Ron Gordon as non-executive chairman and Lisa Yarnell as CEO -- both from Caltius Equity Partners. A former top executive at Beiersdorf North America and Nice-Pak Products, Gordon joins the executive suite with Yarnell, who has logged experience at Coty, Colgate-Palmolive, and L'Oreal, among other firms. Caltius was enticed by Kiss My Face's "unaided brand awareness," given its limited distribution. The investment firm is looking to partner with retailers to develop the natural product segments of their stores. MacLeod and Byckiewicz will remain in decision-making positions at Kiss My Face. – less
