Working at Kmart

  • DMartin in Independence, Missouri 3 months ago
IM A FORMER LOSS PREVENTION MANAGER FOR THIS COMPANY AND LET ME TELL YOU THIS COMPANY IS A JOKE. SOME STORES HAVE NO CAMERAS AND SOME HAVE SHITTY ONES. YOUR NOT ALLOWED TO HANDCUFF SHOPLIFTERS BECAUSE THEY HAVE MORE RIGHTS THAN YOU DO. YOUR PAPERWORK WORK LOAD IS WAY OVER THE LIMIT AND ITS ATLEAST 12 OR 13 HOURS A DAY YOUR WORKING. YOU REPORT TO THE STORE COACH WHO MAKES YOU DO NON LOSS PREVENTION WORK AND YOU HAVE A LP DISTRICT COACH WHO DOESNT SUPPORT YOU AND JUST SAYS GET ERR DONE. THERE IS NO PROPER STRUCTURED TRAINING SO MOST NEWBEES HAVE NO CLUE WHATS GOING ON AND WHEN THEY FAIL THEY TRY TO BLAME THE TRAINING LP MANAGER WHO HAS ENOUGH STUFF TO WORRY ABOUT. SAFETY SEEMS TO BE NUMBER ONE OVER MOST OTHER THINGS. INTERNALS SHOULD BE A PRIORITY BUT THEIR REALLY NOT. OUT OF DATES ARE MORE OF A PRIORITY THAN SOME YOUNG CASHIER CLEANING OUT THE REGISTER. YOU HAVE YOUR OWN STORE BUT YOUR NEVER WORKING IN IT. THE SALARY ISNT WORTH THE HEADACHE AND STRESS THIS DEAD SMELLY STORE CREATES.

Hi. I was wondering if anyone has worked or is working as an Office Associate for Kmart? If so, could you explain exactly what a typical day is like? Is/was it a stressful position? Do/did you like it? Do/Did you have to work on weekends or Holidays? Thanks.

Do you work at Kmart? How did you find the job? How did you get that first interview? Any advice for someone trying to get in?

When you get your paychecks, what days of work do they pay you for? Do they pay you for the prior two weeks worked, or no? Can someone please explain the process to me, because I'm still not sure if my checks are coming up short or if I'm calculating it wrong.

When i first started working at kmart i was a busy bee. I was so thankful that tgey hired me when actual experienced adults with skills also applied. Anyway i was quick to volunteer for every bit of extra work and i was eager to prove my worth. The first day that took that mask off was when i was accused of being lazy becaise i reminded a supervisor that i had to take a break. Mind you the LAW says i must take one every four hours. So, im trying to get this through to her and she starts to get an attitude with me. By the end of this i was basically in tears. I went home feeling terrible. A little while after that the pressure about shop your way percentages became unreal. Everyday i walked in a higher up told me i would soon be fired if my shop your way wasnt at 75 percent. Im not exaggerating. Its a ridiculously high amount! Who wants to sign up for it anyway. Its 10 points to a dollars and a thousand points to a dollar which is one percent back. I remember

So I don't know if I have the job or not I went in dressed in khakis and dress shirt tucked in, belt and with resume in hand and all that. I had an interview that day and talked to customer service about it. They told me that the person who I interviewed with wasn't there and I had to talk to the HR manager instead. They asked me to go to the furniture section and wait for atleast 20 minutes, which I did. When the HR manager talked to me she asked first which job I was applying for, and I told her for cashier. She asked me which hours I was available, and I said mostly morning. After that, she told me that I probably won't get a job as a cashier since they need people in mid-day and evening and all that. She then went on to say that with my experience I'm probably better off getting a job in customer service or unloading trucks. I told her since I have a great deal of customer service experience, I'd like to interview for that. I gave her my resume, and she said she'd email me with a job offer. What worries me is that the persion who said she would interview me wasn't there. It worries me because I scheduled the interview the day before, so it seems like maybe they didnt want to hire me in the first place. I dont know, do you think they were just bsing me to get me to leave?

This is going to be a bit long because i want to put as much information as i can. hopefully i can help someone. My advice to people who are applying to kmart is to always answer in definites. If you answer "unsure" or "I dont know" you will not pass the assessment. If you pass it, you will then get an email to do a job simulation. This is the make or break moment. You need to listen closely and think before you answer EVERYTHING. If you pass this and the kmart is actually hiring then you will be called in a few days for an interview. Dress professionally (duh) and come in with a smile especially if you are applying as a cashier or retail associate. I had a hiring mgr. from another kmart do my interview. She basically went over my application with me and verified my hours. She asked only two interview questions. One being why do you want to work here and the other being do you know anything about kmart. (you should always research the companies you apply to). After that she went into the room with two other women who were the actual hr for my store. She told me she was going to see if she can set me up for a second interview. She went in and started to talk to the other women about me. They were happy that i had open availability (virtual school)and they immediately offered me the job. I agreed to it and they asked me if i had brought the two forms of identification with me. I took out my birth certificate and social security and pic id. She scanned them and told me i would recieve three emails so that i could fill out somethings before i could come to train. I had to have my mother help me because i didnt understand alot of things. Oh and be prepared to spend at least an hour doing that stuff. Also, make sure to have a bank account ready ortherwise you'll have to take a payroll card but you have fees on it so i would reccommend direct deposit. one thing if you are a teen put zero for tax exemption otherwise parents cant claim you when they file taxes. goodluck!!
