I was hired as a part-time producer. I was trained for about a week by an executive producer before she left her job for another one. After that, the instruction I've had has been spotty and initiated by me. Even with limited instruction, I'm still required to produce a 30-minute newscast.
The news director chooses not to go to bat for employees, particularly when our sister station doesn't follow through with their bargain to share content. As a part-time employee, I don't receive holiday pay, and my concerns about it were met with the fact that decision was with Gray, not him.
Further, I'm supposed to work a maximum of 30 hours per week, but have been working closer to 40 on a fairly regular basis. I do not receive benefits in spite of working the hours of a full-time employee.
My co-workers are generally good at their jobs, but are often cynical and negative. The environment is often one of panic and disorganization, and often no one knows who is in charge.
