Business Intelligence Engineer / Database Administrator

Job Description

A St. Louis based pharmaceutical communications company has an immediate opening for an SQL Server Database Administrator with Business Intelligence experience to join our growing Information Technology team. The selected candidate will maintain LDM’s current Data Warehouse as well as manage all BI activities.

Business Intelligence Responsibilities

  • Strong understanding of business functions addressed by Business Intelligence solutions, including: Financial Management/Reporting and Sales/Marketing and ability to articulate the business value of Business Intelligence
  • Proven ability to architect and engineer complex Business Intelligence data models
  • Experience in designing cube dimensions and measures that meet complex business needs
  • Ability designing cubes that need to handle large volumes of data
  • Solid experience in MDX
  • Skilled with performance tuning in SSAS

DBA Responsibilities

  • Running and supporting large scale database environments
  • Implement and support production changes adherent to the change management and release process
  • Expertise in query optimizations and index tuning
  • Continuously monitor performance of SQL Server performance and work to improve performance
  • Manage all database maintenance activities (backups, indexing, integrity checks)
  • Manage SQL related tasks of the Disaster Recovery plan
  • Manage a process that moves large amounts of data between physical offices
  • Working knowledge of SQL Mirroring, SQL Replication, and SQL Availability Groups
  • Write high performance query and provide guidance to the team on writing efficient high performing database queries.
  • Evaluate new database technologies and tools

Technical Qualifications

  • 4+ years experience working with SQL Server 2005/2008/2012
  • 4+ years working with SSAS
  • Expert level understanding of relational database concepts, dimensional database concepts, and database architecture & design for Business Intelligence and OLAP
  • Fluent in both MDX and T-SQL development
  • Experience creating SQL tables, stored procedures, and triggers

Non Technical Qualifications

  • Ability to communicate to both technical and non-technical individuals
  • Must be flexible and capable of juggling multiple priorities, willing to do what it takes to plan for, set, and meet business critical deadlines
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills including design documentation, proof of concept, and prototype analysis documentation
  • Ability to work within team environment
  • Analytical skills, problem solving ability, including the ability to research and trouble-shoot application problems
