Laclede Gas is a natural gas utility company. This is a call center environment. Customer service is #1. Management is fair and supportive.
Hardest part of this job: mandatory overtime during heating season.

Poor Management, not effective when it comes to communication from upper and lower management. Leadership is more focused on integration, and monopolizing the company by buying up the competition.

So much focus is on acquisitions and integrations and so little focus is on current employees. Outside managers are brought in with NO experience in areas they are leading. Some have a very strong command of buzzwords, but no actual substance. If you make complaints, managers will retaliate with no repercussions. Could be a great company if leadership were replaced.

There are a lot of great people at the company, but they don't do a great job of truly listening to their employees and tend to lose their most knowledgeable staff. They also choose their friends when a new position is open instead of the best person for the job. That being said the company is slowly changing along with some of the new leadership. There also is the potential to learn a lot along the way.

A normal day for me is to assist fellow co-workers with questions that the customer has about their account and when requested by the customer I will take over the call to further assist them with their questions or concerns. I've learned a great deal from my time with he company about the need to provide our customers with the proper information that allows them to make the best decision not just for the short term but the long term effects. Thankfully working with management and co-workers who are didicated who also have the same agenda and positive mindset helps as we are all working on the same page to help the customer. The hardest part of my job is that I cannot help everyone get gas service due to certain circumstances that they may have but by far the best part of my job is that I am able to help someone get service that was in need of service and needed special help with funding or informing a customer of their options that they could choose from and explaining the difference bewteeen each option as to them having an opinion of why it is not a good option based on information that was passed along from a customer that may have been on a different plan.

Laclede Gas is a company that doesn't care about it's employees or customers.
For employees, despite the fact the company has had the money to buy other utility companies and is making a healthy profit, all they care about is how many jobs they can cut and how much they can cut the salaries of its employees, even though employees have had their salary frozen for the last 8 yrs. There also no room for advancement as the company hires new people to be supervisors of departments they know nothing about and have never worked in.
For it's customers, in addition to customer service calls being answered in St. Louis, they are also being answered by an outsourcing company in Texas that isn't well trained but that doesn't matter because the company is saving money by paying less in salaries.
There is micromanaging everywhere and little communication and trust between employees and supervisors.

The Company is growing and there is a lot of uncertainty of job security. Management does not communicate well with staff. There is a disconnect between department processes and roles which leads to a lot of confusion. Not a lot of growth potential from within. Company hires mostly from the outside when there are plenty of people with experience and knowledge of the companies growth strategy to fill these roles seemlessly.
