About Lake City Medical Center

299 ? '300px' : 'auto' ); max-width: 300px;"> Lake City Medical Center - Mayo Health System's efforts to provide the highest quality of care and ensure patient safety are once again being recognized with a Gold Seal of Approval by the Joint Commission, which is the nation's oldest and largest accrediting and standards-setting organization in – more... health care.

The Joint Commission conducted an unannounced, on-site evaluation of Lake City Medical Center (LCMC) in the fall. Results were recently released by the Joint Commission, which indicated that LCMC achieved its full accreditation award. This award excludes nursing home services, which are instead evaluated by the Minnesota Department of Health. Accreditation recognizes the medical center's dedication to complying with the Joint Commission's performance standards on a continuous basis. LCMC was last fully surveyed and accredited in December of 2005.

"We seek out accreditation for Lake City Medical Center because we want to demonstrate our commitment to quality of care and patient safety," says Tom Witt, M.D., president and chief executive officer of LCMC. "We consider Joint Commission accreditation as another step toward achieving excellence."

"Above all, the national standards are intended to stimulate continuous, systematic and organization-wide improvement in an organization's performance and the outcomes of care," says Darlene Christiansen, executive director, Hospital Accreditation Program, Joint Commission. "The community should be proud that Lake City Medical Center is focusing on the most challenging goal - to continuously raise quality and safety to higher levels."

Founded in 1951, The Joint Commission seeks to continuously improve the safety and quality of care provided to the public through the provision of health care accreditation and related services that support performance improvement in health care organizations.

The Joint Commission evaluates and accredits nearly 15,000 health care organizations and programs in the United States, including more than 8,000 hospitals and home care organizations, and more than 6,800 other health care organizations that provide long term care, assisted living, behavioral health care, laboratory and ambulatory care services.
