Largo Medical Center is now designated as a Statutory Teaching Hospital by the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA).
The Statutory Teaching Hospital designation is granted to hospitals with at least 100 or more full-time equivalent resident physicians, in seven (or more) different graduate medical education programs. The programs must be accredited by the Council on Postdoctoral Training of the American Osteopathic Association or the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education.
This designation means that Largo Medical Center provides clinical education and training to future and current doctors, nurses, and other health care professionals, in addition to delivering medical care to patients. Most teaching hospitals are affiliated with medical schools or universities. Largo Medical Center is affiliated with Nova Southeastern University. – less
