LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse), Orangeburg, SC - February 15, 2015
I worked anywhere from 40 to 60 hours a week on a post acute rehab wing of the facility. My responsibilities included medication administration, tracheostomy care, wound care, admissions, discharges, Medicare charting, assessments, respiratory treatments, etc. The management when I was there was fair to poor at times. My unit supervisor was excellent and always willing to help, whereas, the DON rarely helped and would ask me constantly to help someone else or deal with something when I was already extremely busy and seemed put out when I would explain to her I couldn't help her at this time. I rarely got to go home on time because of all of the extra work that I was required to do. We were always under staffed and were asked to not only do our jobs as LPN's but also the job of the CNA's. There were days when I didn't have any relief until 11pm and would have to be back at work the next day at 7am. The most enjoyable part of the job was seeing my residents and their families' faces light up and for them to tell me how happy they were to see me when I would walk into work.
