Science Teacher, San Francisco, CA - May 28, 2012
I taught three classes of freshmen (2nd, 4th and 5th periods) and 1 class of seniors (AP biology, 3rd period). It was very challenging to teach from the 2nd period through the 5th with only 5 min of passing period. I had to always try new strategies for my freshmen during lab work or independent work. My AP bio class was very smooth. My students quickly learnt to independently start the warm up or the lab. My hardest part with my seniors was that I had to everyday adapt to their learning pace because they were not used to study by themselves. At leadership High school we teach a diverse population of students that come from minorities. Part of my job was to support and help my students outside class time. I really enjoyed pushing my seniors and being available for all my students. I learned to work with a highly diverse population and to continually adapt my teaching to many students with learning differences.
