About League to Save Lake Tahoe

The League to Save Lake Tahoe is the leading environmental organization advocating for the protection and restoration of Lake Tahoe. We are a private not-for-profit membership organization* composed of more than 5,000 individuals and families from around the United States and beyond. Since 1957, the League has worked to protect the public interest in – more... the conservation of this extraordinary natural resource.

We have grown over the years to become a highly effective, broad-based group made up of people from across the spectrum of political beliefs and interests, who share a common love for Lake Tahoe. Our membership includes local residents, visitors, second-home owners, Californians and Nevadans, young people and those who knew Tahoe long ago. The League has an impressive record of accomplishment. In our early years, we fought efforts to put a freeway along the West Shore, including a bridge over the mouth of Emerald Bay. We were instrumental in the creation of the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) and the development of a regional plan for the area. Since then, the League has developed a history of building public support for conservation of the Tahoe Basin, bringing science into public decision-making, winning litigation when necessary to enforce the law, and building consensus among business and government leaders in support of protecting and restoring Lake Tahoe.

The League continues to be the chief opponent of unwise development and the "watchdog" of TRPA and its regional plan. But we do far more than fight bad projects. Follow the links to learn more about What We Do to Keep Tahoe Blue, How to Help, or return to the Main Menu.

Why do we care so much? One member summed it up best when he established gift memberships for his grandsons. In his letter to his grandsons he wrote, "You are now members of the League to Save Lake Tahoe. This means you are helping to preserve the natural beauty of Lake Tahoe and the forests and streams around it. As members of the League to Save Lake Tahoe you are helping to save the lake. – lessMore from ZoomInfo »
