Volunteer (Current Employee) –  Salem, NCFebruary 4, 2016
Staff is dedicated to social justice and advocating for clients. The community really relies on Legal aid for help with legal issues which they typically can't afford. I just wish that there was more funding for Legal Aid to expand it's reach.
Pros

Staff Attorney (Former Employee) –  North CarolinaJuly 1, 2015
This is a great company for new lawyers. You will get a lot of first hand experience. You still have time for your family, friends and important life events. However, you may not always be able to participate because the salary is abysmal. Moreover, at in recent years, funding cuts have made job security nearly non-existent.

Paralegal Volunteer (Current Employee) –  Pittsboro, NCMarch 19, 2015
A typical day would include answering phones, creating client files, and creating documents for clients. I have learned so much working with legal aid, everything from how to prepare a document to how to interview a client for a will or expunction. They have given me the tools I need to become a great paralegal.

Summer Intern (Former Employee) –  Durham, NCDecember 30, 2013
Educated clients on their legal rights. Interviewed clients and drafted numerous legal documents including wills, motions, leases and demand letters. Researched and prepared legal memoranda. Participated in a brief in Bass v. U.S. Bank where we successfully argued that U.S. Bank was not the legal holder of a promissory note, thus lacked authorization to foreclose on Bass’s property. Participated in a community outreach program for low income individuals, in Oxford, North Carolina. Assisted clients by helping them maintain their status as a benefits recipient for federal benefits such as Social Security, Supplemental Security Income, Medicare, Medicaid, and others.
