Legal Services of the Hudson Valley (LSHV) is looking for a Development Director to lead and expand its Private Fundraising efforts.
LSHV is the largest provider of free civil legal assistance to low-income families and individuals in the Hudson Valley counties of Westchester, Putnam, Dutchess, Orange, Rockland, Ulster and Sullivan counties. LSHV has an annual budget of $11 million and six offices throughout the Hudson Valley. Most of our revenue is from government sources although we do have a base of support from private donors, foundations and law firms.
Position & Responsibilities
The Director of Development is responsible for all aspects of fundraising including foundation, law firm, individual, and corporate giving. The Director of Development is a senior manager and reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer.
The Development Director will be expected to think strategically and creatively in growing our fundraising program, and will be expected to maintain and strengthen relationships with current funders while cultivating new relationships with philanthropic and corporate foundations, law firms, major gift donors and others. S/he will also work closely with members of the Board of Directors. Among other things the Development Director is responsible for creating an annual development plan and strategy, implementing the plan, managing other staff members in the development department, working on a program wide basis to ensure an integrated fund development strategy for LSHV, and producing our annual report as well as other reports and promotional materials.
LSHV seeks a development professional with a proven track record and at least the following qualifications:
- Minimum of BA/BS degree;
- Five years of development experience, preferably in the legal or human services field;
- Demonstrated success in raising funds and developing relationships, especially with
foundations, law firms, corporations and individual donors;
- Knowledge of the Hudson Valley’s philanthropic community;
- Excellent writing, editing, and oral presentation skills; and
- Excellent organizational, communication and leadership skills.
