Pros: licensing is paid for, millage reimbursement, expense report for work related expenses.
Cons: unrealistic expectations set forth by the management team, uncompetitive pricing of product, long hours, insufficient compensation format
A typical day would consist of team meetings, following up on emails, trying to set forth business relationships as a referral network, cold calling as well as following up on any existing customers. Quite a bit of time is spent in the field as well trying to get business, whether that be doing drops in on businesses soliciting, real estate offices – more... or planning and attending community events as a vendor.
Co-workers are the best part of this job, the people who work here really are good people and most, not all, are good sales representatives and have the best intentions for the customer. The managers at some branches are great to work with and want you to succeed, however, management above them is quite corrupt and only looks at numbers rather than getting down to the roots of the problems within the company. The sales area is by far the hardest area to work in within this company. If you cannot meet high selling numbers and do not have a great referral system from the get go, the likelihood that you will make your first compensation cycle is slim to none.
Pay is decent when you start but DRAMATICALLY drops when you hit your first month on plan so if your not selling great numbers, which is the case for most first year reps, your paychecks will be less then half of what they were when you started. The company does feed you some stuff to work with to get your sale numbers up yet, again, you have to meet a certain criteria in order to receive this perk. This criteria is hard enough for well experienced reps to do, let alone someone just starting out in the business.
You will also NOT be able to make any sort of living off of your renewals, in fact, the company could care less if you keep your customers after the first year of their policy. This company is structured all around new business and new business ONLY.
Selling this product is also quite the task considering their rates are not very comparable to many other companies. They say they rate best with homeowners with multiple cars and a bachelors degree, yet time and time again that has not been the case. Overall this company is not one I would recommend to anyone to try and work for, well at least not within the sales or service portion, others sectors of the company were not as bad from what I've heard. – less
