Pros: sense of satisfaction, high quality company to work for
Cons: physically and emotionally demanding, early mornings
A typical day at work begins with getting up early and driving to the school, greeting school staff, setting up equipment in you Picture Day location, photograph kids, break down equipment, and leave your school with the lasting impression of excellent customer service. What I've learned from this job is the personal conviction to strive for excellence;
– more... physical, mental, and emotional endurance, and to reach for perfection. Many of these qualities are attributed to the outstanding management and the quality of training provided. Management continually gives feedback, provides opportunity for personal growth, and encourages individuals to find their own way of creating perfection in their work. This is why it is so easy to get alone with the other photographers. Each person brings their own personality. Because everyone does the same job it is easy for people to grow together. Everyone has a story about their day and everyone can relate. One thing that brings us together is the hardest parts of our day. Some of the hardest parts include getting up very early in the morning and the physical and emotional demand. If you're not an early bird it can be difficult getting used to waking up anywhere from 4 to 6 am. The times vary daily and it can be taxing at times to adjust. Physically, the job requires you to be able to stand, stoop, kneel, and lift heavy equipment. It can also be emotionally exhausting. When you photograph the first guest of the day with enthusiasm, a cheery voice, and a big smile; that attitude needs to be carried throughout the day until everyone has been photographed. In order to have the highest quality customer service and lasting impression, each individual needs to have the same experience. The last one of your day may be your 300th guest, but you're still the first photographer they're seeing. With that said, the most enjoyable part of the job is the satisfaction of seeing the joy in your guests eyes when they give that perfect expression. Though it is a demanding job, the payoff is the greatest reward. Knowing all your hard work and dedication that you put into your job reflects through your work. When that happens, you can win awards! Lifetouch has a company wide competition that challenges photographers to strive to be the best and win awards. I've been with the company for three years and have won four awards and have been recognized multiple times. The feeling of knowing your top quality work is being recognized by thousands of employees in the company makes the entire season worth the wait. – less
