Fun Workplace with Co-Workers
Professional Photographer (Current Employee), Butler, PA –
Pros: limited weekend work.
Cons: health benefits are costly, more then i make a month
A typical day at work is driving an average two hours away from home and often leaving your house at 4a.m. with equipment in your personal vehicle. You get to the school find out where you need to be set up and then unload the equipment and go where you need to be and takes about an hour to set the equipment up for picture day.
Then you find out if – more...  the school just keeps calling classes down or if they have a schedule for you. Then the classes come down and you pose and photograph them all day. Then you do a last call in case if we missed anyone, then takes about the same amount of time, an hour to tear down equipment and load back in your car and head back home unless your master with the job bag and need to drive to return it back to the office.

I've learned and always have is to arrive early in case there would be steps and you would have to carry equipment in rather then roll it on the dolly like we usually do. Also customer's are always first. Good or bad. I have no problem with the management or my co-workers. We all get along great when we do work together as there's times you work by yourself.

I'd say the hardest part of the job is the constant traveling. The most enjoyable part of the job for me is the little kids as I enjoy being around them. – less

Challenging job that provides a sense of accomplishment
Photographer (Current Employee), Fresno, CA –
Pros: sense of satisfaction, high quality company to work for
Cons: physically and emotionally demanding, early mornings
A typical day at work begins with getting up early and driving to the school, greeting school staff, setting up equipment in you Picture Day location, photograph kids, break down equipment, and leave your school with the lasting impression of excellent customer service. What I've learned from this job is the personal conviction to strive for excellence; – more...  physical, mental, and emotional endurance, and to reach for perfection. Many of these qualities are attributed to the outstanding management and the quality of training provided. Management continually gives feedback, provides opportunity for personal growth, and encourages individuals to find their own way of creating perfection in their work. This is why it is so easy to get alone with the other photographers. Each person brings their own personality. Because everyone does the same job it is easy for people to grow together. Everyone has a story about their day and everyone can relate. One thing that brings us together is the hardest parts of our day. Some of the hardest parts include getting up very early in the morning and the physical and emotional demand. If you're not an early bird it can be difficult getting used to waking up anywhere from 4 to 6 am. The times vary daily and it can be taxing at times to adjust. Physically, the job requires you to be able to stand, stoop, kneel, and lift heavy equipment. It can also be emotionally exhausting. When you photograph the first guest of the day with enthusiasm, a cheery voice, and a big smile; that attitude needs to be carried throughout the day until everyone has been photographed. In order to have the highest quality customer service and lasting impression, each individual needs to have the same experience. The last one of your day may be your 300th guest, but you're still the first photographer they're seeing. With that said, the most enjoyable part of the job is the satisfaction of seeing the joy in your guests eyes when they give that perfect expression. Though it is a demanding job, the payoff is the greatest reward. Knowing all your hard work and dedication that you put into your job reflects through your work. When that happens, you can win awards! Lifetouch has a company wide competition that challenges photographers to strive to be the best and win awards. I've been with the company for three years and have won four awards and have been recognized multiple times. The feeling of knowing your top quality work is being recognized by thousands of employees in the company makes the entire season worth the wait. – less

Pros: primier school photography business, e.s.o.p. benifits, friendly work environment
Cons: mostly seasonal work
Lifetouch National School Studios is the Nation's primier school photography business. The atmosphere is a friendly family like atmosphere but also very professional. Sometimes the days and hours you are assigned are few and other times you are working 6 days a week and 10 -12 hours a day. The work is mostly seasonal. Lifetouch offers great benifits – more...  including E.S.O.P. (Employee Stock Option Program) after your first 1,000 hours of work. – less
