About Lighthouse Community Charter School
Serving 720 students and in its 11th year of operation, Lighthouse Community Charter School is a public charter school located in East Oakland. Our mission is to prepare a diverse, K – 12 student population for college and career of their choice. In order to achieve our mission, we believe that all students must be held to high expectations, families and the school must work together to serve the whole child, and that teachers must be constant learners. Lighthouse was established to counter the dismal education trends for low-income students and students of color in Oakland, where the drop-out rate is 37%. Our student population hails from almost every neighborhood of Oakland, with the majority coming from the Fruitvale and East Oakland neighborhoods. Our students are predominantly low-income (85%) and 90% of them will be first in their family to attend college. Lighthouse’s results are promising. 95% of our graduates are accepted to four-year colleges.
