Miles Health Care provides acute and specialty health care service to the residents of Maine's Lincoln County, located north of Portland. The not-for-profit company operates Miles Memorial Hospital, a rural medical center with about 40 beds and has emergency, intensive care, surgery, and birthing departments. Miles Health Care was established in 1941. It is governed by a board of trustees (the Lincoln County Healthcare Board of Trustees) that also oversee the nearby St. Andrews Hospital. As an independently governed member of MaineHealth, Miles receives planning, consulting, capital, and group purchasing benefits.
Both the Miles and St. Andrews medical centers began using electronic health record (EHR) systems in 2010, which allows doctors to access a patient's past medical and diagnostic experiences to make the best decisions on current treatment plans and avoid duplication.
