Fun well manage place
Cook/ Floater (Former Employee), Chicago, IL – May 28, 2013
Pros: free lunch, new people, decent pay
Cons: always got someone over your shoulder
The zoo was a fun place to work. You meet all sorts of people there and they were all really nice. The other employees are helpful and the managers will help you when you are overwhelm. The chiefs are understanding and teach you some things. You clean and you cook then you clean again.

Wonderful Coworkers
Manager (Former Employee), Chicago – May 5, 2013
Pros: where else can you go to the zoo during your lunch?!
Cons: very political atmosphere
Always working toward a common goal, never the same day twice. Great work/life balance. Opportunity to work in cross functional teams.

Upper mngmt needs to open eyes to issues of poor morale caused by manager lacking simple relationship and team building skills.

Original
Counter/Cashier (Former Employee), Chicago, IL – March 29, 2013
Pros: free lunches
Cons: some distracting employees
Working at Lincoln Park Zoo is quite enjoyable and opening. Before opening, I would enjoy peering at the pond next to the parlor and have great conversations with some of my co-workers. The hardest part of the job, because I worked at an ice cream parlor, would be serving a multiple people at a time; since in the middle of summer the lines would be – more... coming out the door. – less

Yes, this was a fun place to work: but we had to be productive.
Steward Warehouse Worker (Former Employee), Chicago Il. – December 10, 2012
Pros: always good free food and then back to work!
Cons: could have used a little more money per hr and some health care.
This was a good job experience. The work day was full with the proper lunch and breaks.

I learned lots of information regarding the zoo and the care of the animals. As for the department I worked for I learned many things on the prep of food for different events and the importance of the warehouse connection to all other departments within the facility.

I – more... didn't have a hard part of the job. I liked what I was doing and if you follow the rules you won't have any problems.

The most enjoyable part of the job was the events with the free food for staff which was always good! And the people I worked with were
hard workers, this made the days go well. – less

I worked at the Zoo!!
Production Manager Graphics & Communications Dept (Former Employee), Chicago, IL – June 19, 2012
Pros: free parking, the zoo itself, every holiday off.
Cons: not-for profit, lack of communication between departments, high turn-around.
Lincoln Park Zoo is a magical place to visit, and the best part of the job was interacting with the public.
The not-for-profit aspect made it extremely difficult to get anything done, and the team I was in charge of had no sense of urgency.
Budgets, agendas, were not adhered to.
