Experience with Livingston
Release Customs Analyst (Former Employee) –  Itasca, ILAugust 14, 2017
Working with Livingston had brought me great learning opportunities. I've learned about customs brokerage and the basics of how good are manifested through shipping lines. Livingston does a good job of helping one balance work and life schedules. I have appreciated my time with them, however, it is time for a new journey and new learning opportunities.
Pros
Lunch was provided for meeting and exceeding goals
Cons
Little to none contact with co workers, very strick envoirnment to work in.

All around interesting and at times enjoyable place to be
Reconcillation Specialist (Former Employee) –  Taylor, MIAugust 3, 2017
This was a fast pace work place and had to stay on your toes. I enjoyed working and talking to people through out the country when necessary. As the custom brokerage company became more computer driven so did your job. This meant staying on top of whatever was new within the system to ease productive on the government.
Pros
Flexible work hours, celebrate many different occasions
Cons
there was special treatment within the office

Global Classification Compliance Manager (Former Employee) –  Southfield, MIJuly 23, 2017
What started out as an exceptional company with Vastera, has declined significantly over the years. The bottom line has become end all be all, with Senior management not taking the time to understand what is required in the day to day work. Experience and dedication are secondary to finances. I hope that they will one day find out what it truly important and focus on the people who do the work, so they can truly grow as a company.
Pros
Monthly cake for birthdays and anniversaries, Wonderful committees that do positive things inside and outside of the company
Cons
Very little focus on employees and how to improve the work, and not simply do more with less.

Talented Group
Import Specialist (Current Employee) –  Tonawanda, NYJuly 11, 2017
Some of the best people I have worked with over my 15+ years of being in the workforce. Co-workers are a very talented, well-diversified group of great people to work with when the job itself gets stressful. Kudos to the management and the organization as a whole.
Pros
Relaxed environment with a somewhat stressful job; occasional overtime available; excellent MGMT
Cons
industry itself is overworked with lots of red tape

Would not work there again.
Business Analyst (Former Employee) –  New YorkJuly 11, 2017
I found this company to be very disorganized and not effective in on-boarding new employees. The recruiting company I was working with had a very clumsy and error prone method of time reporting.
Pros
Peer relationships
Cons

Good company that knows their place in the market and segment. No real direction and growth plan. Management tries but has no actual pull in decision making.

Great professional workplace
Release Customs Analyst (Current Employee) –  Taylor, MIJune 19, 2017
Been working there almost a year and haven't had a single issue yet. Management is understanding of unavoidable issues that can sometimes arise but also expect a level of professionalism. Coworkers are for the most part fun and funny depending upon which team you work for. A typical day consists of data entry and correction to allow freight shipments into or out of the country.
Pros
Paid vacation and benefits
Cons
24/7 company means you WILL have to work holidays on a rotational basis

Waste of Time
Supervisor (Current Employee) –  Southfield, MIJune 9, 2017
Ineffective management. Too many levels of management. Very bureaucratic and top heavy. Nothing is really accomplished. All your time is spent on quality related issues and pointless corrective actions. Bad hiring practices and no HR available.
Pros
good vacation time.
Cons
bad management

hardest part of the job is how little money you make

Good work, not great management.
Operational Analyst (Former Employee) –  Tonawanda, NYMay 12, 2017
At livingston, I had the job of an operations assistant as well as reception coverage some days. I learned how to process shipments for truck deliveries and boat shipments. The management could be better, but every place has it's ups and downs. The work involved is great work. The hardest part of the job is when you have to balance work with home. The most enjoyable part of the job was working as a receptionist.
Pros
Paid vacation time, paid sick time, fun workplace activities and food trucks.
Cons
Sometimes short handed, hostile at times.

Management is very rude to employees. Employees are over worked. Culture is very clicky. Location is not convenient. Canadian executives are very unattached to Chicago office.

The skill set of the management staff is impressive. Most of not all have knowledge of the customs world outside of the automotive space. They are all willing to share their knowledge.

Horrible place to work
Leadership (Former Employee) –  MichiganApril 10, 2017
This was by far, the worst place I've ever worked at. The company thinks they own every second of your life. Appreciation and kudos are saved for upper management. Goals are unrealistic and company systems do not work. Productivity and realistic expectations are non existent. Upper management is concerned solely with fast talk and tooting their own horn than with improvement or measured actual results. If you like misery than Livingston is the place for you! Any positive reviews are facticious, probably inputted by management.

A lot of modernization is required for the company to be competitive in the market. No technology, no culture. The company remains in circa 1991 in all facets.
