About Louisiana Lottery Corporation
Louisiana Lottery likes it when people get an itch to scratch. The company operates the state's lottery activities, which include both instant scratch-off games and lotto. Louisiana also participates in the Multi-State Lottery Association's Powerball game. Half of the company's annual $180 million in revenue goes to prize winners, while the rest goes – more... to the state treasury (35%), lottery operations funding (10%), and lottery retailers (5%). A state amendment requires that the treasury funds go into state education coffers. The Louisiana Lottery Corporation was formed in 1991 by the state legislature; it is a true corporation not a state entity.
In 2008 Louisiana Lottery reported that a total of $5.4 billion had been generated by the lottery since its inception and $1.9 billion had been transferred to the state in that time. – less
