Pros: half days on fridays
Cons: shortened and interupted lunches, frequent policy changes
Lourdes Medical Associates in Cherry Hill starts seeing patients at 8:00am, six phone lines are also turned on at this time as well. Four girls are at the front, 2 check patients in, 2 check patients out and we all four answer the phones. Two desks are equipped with scanners (both at the check out desks). We check patients in, verify insurance, make appointments, do referrals, check out patients and lots in between. My original office in Voorhees moved to Cherry Hill and 1 month later we went live with the launching of NextGen and EHR. Our team worked well and kept a positive front desk atmosphere. The hardest part of the job was keeping up with the scanning while checking out patients which with the new system took anywhere from 5-10min per patient. I was also in charge of taking all the referrals off the referral line and tracking them electronically. The doctor I worked for scheduled most patients every 15min. I always managed to complete my tasks as my co-workers were willing to help if available. We all helped each other and I still maintain a good relationship with them all. The most enjoyable part of my job by far was the patient interaction. I loved them all but I had my special bunch who always had an extra kind word of thanks and appreciation and once in awhile a cupcake or a scratch off Lottery ticket.
In the end I learned a great deal about myself. I grew a lot in this position by gaining strength and knowledge in a growing and changing field and I now know what I hope for in my future.
