Abilene – more... Aero - Lubbock Aero as we know it today traces it's roots back to Butterfield Trail Airport. On March 1, 1968 the partnership known as Abilene Aero began business with four employees. Negotiations with the City of Abilene opened the way for a new facility to be constructed at Abilene Municipal Airport. On March 1, 1971, Abilene Aero began doing business at its new facility at the Municipal Airport. During the intervening years, Abilene Aero continued to grow and prosper.

1976 :: Abilene Aero leased facilities at Sweetwater Airport from city to operate an FBO under name Sweetwater Aero. 1979 :: Sweetwater Aero sold to Robert Brookshire.
