Major Account Manager (Former Employee) –  Richmond, VAJanuary 9, 2018
The company has a limited footprint and product portfolio that is priced at a premium. Management is only concerned with exit strategy and lining their own pockets.

OPERATION SPECIALIST (Former Employee) –  Waynesboro, VANovember 5, 2017
Absolutely loved my time here. A typical day would be entering data onto spread sheets on Excel and working on polygons with a grinding software. I learned a lot with polygons, with managing Visa's for workers, most importantly I learned an advanced amount on how to use Excel, Word and Outlook.

Total Care Representative (Former Employee) –  Waynesboro, VAOctober 11, 2017
The job itself is okay, but the requirements change nearly daily, and there is little or no opportunity for advancement. The key departments in dealing with customers are not staffed properly causing a lot of stress.
Pros
Benefits are good. Pay is not bad.
Cons
Not enough staff, and no hiring in the positions that need more staff.

Installer/Technician (Former Employee) –  Daleville,CovingtonSeptember 24, 2017
Loved working at Lumos until they started putting know nothing managers into positions they have no clue about how to manage.
The lower level employees are great to work with but upper level management are a bunch of suck ups who will throw each other or any one else under the bus to make themselves look good and pretend to know what they are doing. All I can say is I sure hope there is such a thing as Karma and smacks a couple of the suck ups in the face with life.
Pros
Low Level work enviroment
Cons
Guess ? Upper Management in Waynesboro

The worst part of working at Lumos is the very little advancement opportunity. Secondly is the management that is only concerned about keeping their jobs not helping you.

Network Planner (Current Employee) –  Charleston, WVOctober 26, 2015
Lumos Networks offers an extremely flexible working schedule that honors the trust system, i.e. if you need a longer lunch, you can take it provided productivity isn't impacted. Management is loyal and understanding, although often upper-level workloads encumber full communication through the teams on down. Co-workers are knowledgeable and kind, and often quite unique individuals. The most challenging part of the position is balancing tasks when we are repeatedly being asked to change priorities. The greatest award for this position is sheer amount of knowledge I've gained in the field of Telecom. It is better than ten degrees in the subject.
Pros
Great work schedule, good pay, respect
Cons
Future often uncertain, difficult to move up

NOC Supervisor (Former Employee) –  Waynesboro, VAOctober 11, 2015
Most of the employees seemed happy in their roles. As a manager there, I was able to help get some to a point in their careers where they could advance. Information was difficult to get from shift to shift and some management of that would make it better. The company was indecisive on how their future would go. This made it difficult to plan for new tools. Overall, I really enjoyed working with Lumos.
Pros
Family like atmosphere
Cons
Upper management didn't seem to communicate well with regular employees.

Was once good... now toxic
Engineer (Former Employee) –  Waynesboro, VAAugust 9, 2015
If you worked with management previously, and they thought you were a nice guy, you're golden. However, the technical leadership is completely toxic. Senior management is either unwilling or unable to address the issue either, despite DOZENS of people representing core talent leaving the company.

Fortunately, the recent press releases that are complete smoke and mirrors have convinced me, it's time to move on. Had management not gone a little too far paying for the positive press, I might have believed they were transforming the company.
Pros
Your co-workers. 11 on a scale of 10.
Cons
Management, inparticulat technical leadership. Each is completely inept.

An opportunity to learn new skills comes nearly every day
Access Engineer (Former Employee) –  Charleton, WVaMarch 2, 2015
Worked for this company for six years. Always an opportunity to learn new skills and improve them as you move along.

A company learning how to "be" large .. the growth spurt of acquisition has given the company an opportunity to learn as well.

Network Planner (Former Employee) –  Charleston, WVNovember 17, 2013
Typical day as a Network Planner for Lumos Networks was maintaining the company's fiber optic cable layout, across the Northeast regions. I worked with three primary programs to accomplish my tasks. My work was G.I.S. intensive utilizing maps and latitude and longitude coordinates. My co-workers were nice and professional, each with their own backgrounds on how they were assets to the company. The hardest part about working there was the fiber records were constantly needing updated and often the information needed to update the records was not easily accessible. I learned valuable information on how fiber optic cable is lain out to provide network communication for customers. Overall, I loved this job.
Pros
Relaxed work environment, Reasonable Management
Cons
Outdated information
