Always fun to be on the field and meeting people and supplying hope in the form of educative hand outs and protection about HIV/AIDS.
Peer Advisor/ Outreach Coordinator (Current Employee), 3414 Church Avenue – May 10, 2013
Pros: free lunches, free metrocards, free target gift cards, meeting people in the community and being a liaison
Cons: short breaks, healtcare
A typical day at work . You meet alot of people who's always seeking information about safe sex or recommend them about things they don't know when it comes to safe sex.
I learned there's alot of people with risky habits
Management could have been more flexible
Co-workers were always on the level of making the program more informative.
The hardest part – more... of the job , When you sign up an individual for HIV/AIDS testing and looking at the individual whilst they wait for their results in anxiety and fear.
The most enjoyable part of the job is just helping and being out on the field, in business, schools, community events ,etc, just giving information and giving people that hope they never know they once had in the community when it comes to protection and knowledge of safe sex. – less

My very first job and I have no complaints about it!
Clinical Documentation Specialist (Former Employee), Brooklyn, NY – December 12, 2012
Pros: great environment in which i always felt like i was learning something new
This was my very first job. I was unaware of what a Documentation Specialist exactly did. They took me under their wings and taught me everything I know to date about CDS.
I learned everything I need to know, plus more regarding what a CDS does. My co-workers were very helpful and were always there for me.
I can't say there was any real "hard" part – more... of the job. If anything, there were challenges which I enjoyed conquering!
The most enjoyable part was playing detective with my daily chart reviews. – less

A good place to advance your career.
Filing Clerk (Former Employee), Brooklyn, NY – December 3, 2012
Pros: free classes in your field for development and growth.
At Lutheran Medical center,a typical day would be,pulling files for the auditors/accounts dept and making copies of files in the morning.I would sort the mail when it comes at about mid-day-1pm,after which I would put in order and stamp the daily invoices for individual accountants to process. It helped me develop my communication skills, when dealing – more... with people,my confidence and self esteem grew stronger. My capabilities of operating in an office also strengthened. When it comes down to management,we got along very well,as for my co-workers,they made me feel at home from the very moment I set my foot in that office, once I learnt the rules and regulations,it was smooth sailing from there on in.The hardest part of my job was when I had a whole lot of files to pull and copy for the auditors/accountants.The most enjoyable part of my job was knowing that at the end of my work day,I got all my work for the day done,It was very satisfying! – less

An educational two years
Registered Nurse, Medical/Surgical Unit (Former Employee), Brooklyn, NY – September 28, 2012
Pros: detailed, intense orientation, 4 weeks vaca, pay within parameters
Cons: staffing
For a small, community hospital in Brooklyn, on a med/surg floor, it's pretty typical. 8-10 patients. Patients could range from a bug bite that turned into cellutlitis to a vented patient with no DNR recently upgraded to the ICU awaiting transfer. Lots of admissions at night, lots of d/c's during the day. Lots of communication between all titles, i.e., – more... SW, case mgr, attending, residents, nurse mgr, nutritionist.

The most important thing I learned was how to prioritize and truly assess a patient. And since I started as a graduate nurse, I learned all the typical med/surg tasks: safe med administration, starting IV's, Foley catheters, TPN, blood administration, etc.

Management, again, was typical. They weren't unfair, per se, but lots of the RN's complained how they felt unsupported. Most days, though, management was fine and tried their best to show support and keep the workday flowing.

"Nurses eat their young" was definitely NOT a motto heard on my floor. Supportive, helpful, kind, understanding...it was a great place to start as a graduate RN.

The hardest part of the job are the usual RN complaints...understaffed many times, a few management issues, patient load.

The most enjoyable part of the job was really feeling like I had educated a patient about their issue and made them feel empowered in getting and staying healthy. I also am a people person, and I loved the daily interactions with patients and families and making them feel as comfortable as possible. And getting an IV on the first try on a person with "no veins" could be enjoyable too! – less

I would love to have a job in any other Dept.
Credentialing Specialist (Former Employee), Brooklyn, NY – June 20, 2012
Pros: most holidays we were off.
Cons: did not follow their own policy.
A typical day at work for me was great. I worked in the Proessional Affairs Office. We credentialed all Doctors and the rest of the Professional Providers for the hospital. It was a nice atmosphere to work. I was hired to work there for only 8 weeks but they kept me for 10 Months. Unfortunately the Dept. had a really bad turn around where all of the – more... employees including the Director left. Their policy states that if you worked there for over 6 Months, you will be hired permanently. Unfortunately for me, the Vice President re-vamped the whole Dept. and hired all new staff. The most enjoyable part of the job was working and seeing so many different people in the hospital. – less
