The French International School of Washington (K to 12) is a private, non-for-profit organization with the mission to provide its students with the best of both the French and American educational systems. The school’s education is based on the French curriculum and is recognized worldwide.

We are seeking candidates to start on a temporary basis (4-5 month assignment) with the possibility of becoming regular/full-time. Because this position is temporary, we will only consider local candidates who are already eligible to work in the U.S. The school _cannot_ obtain a work visa for this position.


Under direction of the Director of Secondary School, and in accordance with French texts and professional practices, plans and administers the school's library media and programs. Plans and provides direct instruction to students from 6th to 12th grade. Teaches them research skills and information retrieval and literacy. Supervises and helps with their homework in the library. Brings support and coordination to pedagogical projects in collaboration with teachers. Manages library media center material, facilities, and equipment. Communicates the school library media program to administrators, staff, students and parents.

*Plans, implements, and evaluates a comprehensive program of school library media services adapted throughout the curriculum.
*Plans and coordinates a comprehensive program of instruction for students encompassing information technologies as well as data research in traditional resources.
*Teaches information retrieval, analysis and selection skills to students. Prepares students to evaluate the relevancy, authority, and accuracy of sources found on Internet and electronic databases.
*Guides students in their research and generally maintains an environment which encourages all students to utilize information resources and become lifelong readers.
*Works closely with teachers to develop activities, projects or events to enrich student’s intellectual curiosity, knowledge and comprehension in all subjects of instruction.
*Plans an annual budget for acquisitions throughout the school year, including periodicals, books, online subscriptions, material and electronic resources.
*Keeps current with pedagogical and literary resources to evaluate, select and maintain a collection pertinent to the Lycée curriculum, applying to varying levels of student ability and interest.
*Evaluates, selects and orders materials, from French as well as American providers, follows up the process through accounting, in accordance with the library yearly budget.
*Catalogs, indexes and shelves all printed material in all languages taught at the Lycée. Keeps the database current, and processes library loans throughout the teaching year to students and personnel.
*Provides access to professional materials for teacher reference and general professional reading, viewing, and listening.
*Plans with administration and staff for the integration of media program resources and media research skills throughout the curriculum.
*Keeps the resources collection, compiles bibliographies and reading lists for all levels of readers
*Continuously updates personal knowledge about new technologies, learning theories, and instructional strategies to share with library staff.
*Maintains a cooperative relationship with MCPS Media Services.


*Experience as teacher or as librarian.
*Bachelor’s degree in Library Science or Capes d’enseignant documentaliste preferred
*French and English language FLUENCY required
