Assistant Men's and Women's Swim Coach (Former Employee) – Saint Paul, MN – February 22, 2018
Macalester College is an amazing place to work. If I was not moving out of state I would have loved to remain there for a while. Students, staff, and faculty are all incredibly amazing and friendly, and make everyone feel welcome and a part of the community.
One of the best schools in the country to work for.
Visiting Assistant Professor (Former Employee) – St. Paul, MN – January 10, 2018
I worked at Macalester for three years and can only sing the accolades of the students, faculty, staff, and administration. It is one of the best liberal arts schools in the country for a reason: the on-campus culture.
Senior Associate (Former Employee) – Saint Paul, MN – December 20, 2017
A great place to work until 2011 when they fired people in Human Resources including the head. Then they hired 2 who transformed the campus into a business like, cold hearted place where people began getting fired or let go for no reason.
Campus is like a small town. Easy to find place to eat and there is even a post office with no line.
Teaching Assistant (Former Employee) – Saint Paul, MN – July 24, 2017
Worked as a lab assistant and teaching assistant while a student at Macalester. The pay and hours were decent and accommodated a student schedule, but there was little room for "advancement" per say, and no benefits were offered, as I was a student employee.
Front Desk/Office Assistant (Current Employee) – Saint Paul, MN – June 9, 2017
I currently work at Macalester College as a part of my work study and they are extremely understanding and accommodating. I currently hold two positions with Macalester and can split my hours and by extension my award between them however works for me.
Assistant Director of Admissions (Current Employee) – Saint Paul, MN – June 5, 2017
The people are Macalester College are fantastic. The benefits provided such as retirement and the gym facilities are excellent. The Admissions department has a great team who are easy to collaborate with. The work is fast paced and cyclical.
Researcher (Former Employee) – St. Paul, MN – June 5, 2017
This is an opportunity offered by the school for its students. For my PI, we learned how to manage a lab, synthesize compounds, and conduct a general analysis of these compounds to prove what we made. There is always something to do but your coworkers are generally friendly and the school staff are always supportive.
Arabic Teacher (Former Employee) – Saint Paul, MN – February 13, 2017
It was a very good experience. But no chances for long employment. I was giving the chance to start an Arabic program starting with one section and within 3 years it became a full program with a study abroad supplement.
Assistant Groundskeeper (Former Employee) – Saint Paul, MN – April 10, 2016
The summer was the best time to be around. The weather was warm, the facilities people are all very friendly and really enjoy having the college kids help them out. They taught me very practical skills I could use in maintaining a house and they would often help me fix problems I had with my rental house as long as I could bring it in.
Water Polo Coach assistant (Former Employee) – Saint Paul, MN – June 30, 2015
Being able to pass my experience in Water Polo to college girls who are starting in this sport, was an amazing experience where I surprisingly learn more than I taught. Bringing in my memories a lot of good Water Polo lesson and life lesson. The fact that me and the team were very close in age made it really challenging to earn the respect of the team as a coach. But the Incredible team I worked with and the very understanding boss I had, made the season pass so quick that did not even feel like work.
Data Entry Clerk (Former Employee) – Saint Paul, MN – April 22, 2015
Macalester College is a healthy welcoming environment. My hours were flexible and the management allowed me the flexibility to perform my job without micro-managing. My co-workers were all friendly and mature. A typical day was to go in to the office and work on the project I was hired to do. I learned new software with ease and there wasn't anything difficult. The hardest part of the job was knowing it was a temporary assignment and that I'd have to leave when my project was completed.
healthy environment, great co-workers and management/supervisors
Academic Computing Consultant (Former Employee) – Saint Paul, Minnesota – November 2, 2012
My primary objective was to create a help desk for faculty, staff and students that did not exist before I was hired…slowly but surely over time, because funding was necessary.
I made a proposal outlining the cost of a server and help desk specific software, employee costs and requirements. Employees and I logged problems and solutions creating a very useful database.
I also created a budget to add two student labs and upgrade three existing labs. I selected the systems; created the system images for both PC-compatible and Macintosh systems; installed the switch; ran the Cat. cables; ensured adequate power, even selected the furniture. Everything was up and running in nine months.
I managed and grew the help desk and support mechanisms for four years at Macalester College,
supportive management, great benefits, laptop provided for work from home, cell phone
