Millions of men (and women) have helped power this firm to the upper echelon of the staffing industry. Doing business as ManpowerGroup, the company is one of the world's largest providers of temporary employees, placing about 3.5 million people in office, industrial, and professional positions every year. It offers services through different brands, including ManpowerGroup Solutions, Manpower, Experis (accounting, finance, health, and engineering positions), and Right Management, which provides management consulting services focused on leadership development and assessment. ManpowerGroup has some 3,800 owned or franchised offices in 80 countries and territories.
Supplying temporary employees to businesses on an as-needed basis accounts for the bulk of the company's business, with most of its sales coming from office and light-industrial placements. ManpowerGroup is focused on its professional staffing services (Experis) division, however, which has been its fastest-growing segment.
Operations outside the US, including Manpower UK, account for about 85% of Manpower's sales. During 2011 Manpower acquired Proservia SA, a provider of information technology and systems engineering solutions in France. The company has also been expanding its Asia/Pacific presence, where Manpower made acquisitions in China and India in 2012 as well.
Mergers & Acquisitions
In keeping with its strategic focus on professional staffing services, ManpowerGroup acquired COMSYS IT Partners in 2010 for about $375 million. The Houston-based firm provided information technology staffing through more than 50 offices in the US, Canada, and the UK. ManpowerGroup integrated the staffing operations into its Experis unit.
