Maple Leaf Foods Inc. (Maple Leaf) is a meat, meals and bakery company serving wholesale, retail and foodservice customers across North America and internationally. The Company operates in three segments: the Meat Products Group, the Agribusiness Group and the Bakery Products Group. Meat Products Group comprises processed packaged meats; chilled meal – more... entrees and lunch kits, and pork, poultry and turkey products, and global meat sales. Agribusiness operations include swine production and animal by-products recycling operations. Bakery Products Group comprises the Company’s 89.8% ownership in Canada Bread Company, Limited, a producer of bakery products including breads, rolls, bagels, artisan and sweet goods, sandwiches and fresh pasta and sauces. On January 29, 2008, the Company acquired the shares of Aliments Martel Inc. During the year ended December 31, 2008, the Company sold most of its Ontario hog production operations and all of its wholly owned production investments in Alberta.
