Not your average job
Sacker (Current Employee), Littleton, MADecember 21, 2014
Pros: people appreciate you the more helpful you are, lots of food options for lunch breaks, possible bonuses, friendly staff, happy and warm environment, great pay, easily adaptable place
Cons: bad weather = sad face for the cart pushers (but someone has to do it)
In general working is something that can be fun or boring, but it depends on how you shift the system to have a happy day or a sad day. Market Basket is a very active company that values its customers so much that even a smile a day can change how people view you. This is one reason I like the store because the environment is happy and productive at – more... the same time. My boss is nice and understanding, and my co-workers and funny smart. Ironically the hardest part of the day is leaving the store because of a excellent days work. This is because I am part of the center of attention at Market Basket. My co-workers think i am funny, my boss thinks I am very productive and the customers think I am very nice. All in all a good job is not characterized by what you get from it, but what you put in to change the environment around you in a positive manner. – less

Great place to work, like a big happy family
Meat Wrapper (Former Employee), Seabrook, NHDecember 15, 2014
Pros: friendly environment, satisfying work
Cons: they almost never hire full-timers
A typical day at work here is very satisfying, in the meat department we spent most of our time cutting and wrapping meat, as well as helping customers and doing special orders for them. The work is hard, but not back-breaking, and since the stores are small everyone is like a big happy family.

Management is generally good, they are people with lots – more... of experience in their areas of work (they don't just pull the meat manager right off the street, and the Store manager had to work his way up from the bottom).

The hardest part of the job is getting the meat cased fully stocked in the morning before it gets too busy. Later in the day it gets easier, but you've got to be very quick in the morning.

The most enjoyable part of the job was my co-workers, and the customers. We got a lot of regulars come in, most people knew me and I knew them, since it was a local, small town store. I got along with just about everybody I worked with, I never once had hard feelings for any of my co-workers.

I would recommend this job to anyone- the only reason I quit was because I moved. I would still be working there to this day if I could! – less

MEAT MARKET MANAGER (Current Employee), Nederland, TXNovember 18, 2014
fast paced. you are not working with the brightest or most educated individuals. This leads to drama and poor work ethics. Once you have become a manager there is no advancement for those that are worthy to be more than they are. Too many corporate officials for such a small company and they tend to micro manage everything.

Asst. Front End Manager (Former Employee), Methuen, MANovember 4, 2014
Pros: good co-workers
Cons: low pay
You start the day making sure every register has.Bags, cleaning supplies, orange stickers and 500$ recounted by cashier. I make sure anyone that needs help i attend to weather i need to void out an item or taking money to the cash office. Writing a schedule for the front end. That also is the hardest part of my day.

Meat Wrapper (Former Employee), Swanzey, NHNovember 2, 2014
Pros: easy to learn, nice co-workers, hour long lunch with two 10-minute breaks
Cons: too cold, rude co-workers sometimes, heavy lifting
It was a good job, easy to do and didn't take much thought once I learned the codes and what everything was. I was allowed to make cube steak/beef patties as well as wrapping products, doing weigh ups, filling the cases and sometimes would open packages and put them in the meat trays.
