Communication was lacking in our department. We were just supposed to "know" what was happening within the department.
Medical Transcriptionist (Former Employee), Eau Claire, WI –
Pros: working from home, not having to worry about inclement weather.
Cons: isolated.
We were constantly changing how things were done. When I started, we worked for a center and did those doctor's first. If another center was behind, we would then help them to get caught up. We then went to specific doctor's, different centers. We had so many changes I don't remember them all. When I left, we were in Specialty Pods and transcribed only – more...  that specialty. To detail what I learned would take pages. The body is very complex. With the host of diseases, cancers, and even the common cold, diagnoses and treatments are changing constantly. Management was dependent on who you had and when, what department they were coming from or if it was an outside hire. You did what you were asked and didn't "rock the boat". My co-workers, for the most part, were amazing. The hardest part of the job was the day to day struggle of figuring out what some of the doctors were saying. Whether it be their dialect, slurring, talking too fast, eating while dictating, burping, yawning and talking, or dictating from home and kids yelling, crying, playing band instruments in the background, we had to figure it out to the best of our ability. I did enjoy my position with Marshfield but with voice recognition and the implementing of this as a pilot in one of the specialty departments, I decided it was time to pursue my first love, and that is art. – less

Best job ever
Psychiatric Secretary (Former Employee), Marshfield, WI –
Pros: i loved the work
Cons: the job didn't last long
I got my foot in the door and worked my way up. I wish I could have worked at Marshfield Clinic longer, but life doesn't always go the direction you want. The on call work was short-lived. I enjoyed working in supply, and my co-worker was great. Most of my work was typing and data entry. I applied for the Psychiatric Secretary opening but didn't think – more...  I would get the job. I was thrilled to get such a good job, and I enrolled in a medical terminology course at the technical college in Marshfield. I enjoyed working at the clinic for a little over a year. – less
