My love for Mary Kay
INDEPENDENT BEAUTY CONSULTANT (Current Employee), South Holland, ILDecember 20, 2014
Pros: meeting new people
Cons: people not wanting to help out
Mary Kay, Inc has been in my live since I was a child and I love how it helps with communication skills. It helps with improvement as well. The work was confusing at first but watching a DVD on how to work and then going out to other people's houses who are willing to help you help or join is a great experience. My supervisor has been a great help and – more... a great person to go to for help. The hardest part of the job is finding people who are actually willing to let you do their make-up and hand treatments but it did get easier. – less

Senior Beauty Consultant (Current Employee), jacksonville, FLDecember 11, 2014
Pros: own boss, flexible, paid on the spot, ability to move fast up the career ladder
Cons: not always guaranteed to make money at a class
meeting new people everyday, teaching woman the importance of taking care of your face with the right products to ensure long healthier looking skin using products that have anti aging. I work alone but I'm apart of a huge team of woman, who work individually but meet weekly to give insights, tips, and ideas to better your business. Hardest part of – more... the job varies with each person for me because we are a direct sales company and not commercially advertised getting out and meeting the people we call leads to have a class with me, whether skin care or color. The most enjoyable part of this job, comes from meeting new people, changing their lives but in enriching them with knowledge as to aging, because knowledge is power, – less

Consultant (Current Employee), Chicago, ILNovember 22, 2014
Pros: crew member pizza
Cons: cannot eat expired foods becomes waste
Greeting customers at my job with a smile and energy. My job consist of fast past duties, including dealing with money and food. Working with co-workers can be a task at times. But some how I continue to stay focus and do my job as an employee. I will have to say the hardest part at my job, is when we have new hire that has to be trained so at that – more... point it becomes a slow past process. Talking with different people and encountering different personalities. Some are happy when they come in to establishment. – less

Pros: own schedule
Cons: constant cliental
It is great for the extra income. You meet a lot of fabulous people. There are a lot of activities that you can do. If you are starting out, its good if you know a lot of people. I moved to the area and thought it would be a great opportunity to get to know people and sell the product, but after awhile it got harder.

Motivational and Encouraging Workplace
Independent Consultant (Current Employee), Gastonia, NCNovember 3, 2014
Pros: motivation, encouragement, making women feel beautiful
Cons: no steady income
Since Mary Kay is direct sales, there is never a steady permanent income. Basically, you make as much as the effort that you put in. However with that being said, you can work and work and never sell anything. I love the friends that I made, I love the encouragement and motivation that I have received, but I need stability and steady pay checks coming – more... in. I will always use this product, and keep my involvement with the company active, but for my household I need more. – less

The Mary Kay Technique
Beauty Consultant (Current Employee), Sarasota, FLOctober 27, 2014
Pros: flexibility, community involvement, customer appreciation
Cons: commission
I love Mary Kay and will continue to work with this company because of the community involvement, wonderful customer appreciation and flexibility of working when I want to. The most enjoyable part of being a Mary Kay beauty consultant is the flexibility! The hardest part of the job is working on commission. I have learned that while I love the flexibility – more... and growth within the community of wonderful ladies that encompass Mary Kay, I need the stability of income which leads me to find another suitable fixed income that I can grow with. – less

Great flexibility and opportunity to be successful with with a ton of support from the company
Beauty/Sales Consultant (Current Employee), Harrisburg, PAOctober 23, 2014
Pros: flexible schedule, great company, great potential for success.
Cons: no benefits at the sales consultant position
A typical day at work involves keeping your inventory stocked and organized, contacting clients in order to set up appointments to show them products and make sales, processing orders from sales you made at appointments, keeping track of finances and processing payments, and checking in with repeat customers about products.

I have learned to be even – more... more organized than before in order to keep up with everything involved in the process. I have a much deeper understanding of the products and how to persuade potential clients into wanting my product.

The company is great about keeping everyone motivated and hold meetings in order to share ideas. All of the other sales consultants are great and helpful.

The hardest part of the job is cancelled appointments or clients wishing to reschedule. Often times they simply cancel altogether.

The most enjoyable part of the job is actually holding the appointments and letting the clients try the products and seeing the different between before and after. – less

Sales Assistant Intern (Former Employee), El Cajon, CAOctober 22, 2014
Working here was just something I could do to get out of being with my parents all the time I di learn how many people bought cosmetics and how to maintain a good business. It was important to keep customers happy to keep them coming back. My boss was like my older sister if I made a mistake she corrected me and showed me what I needed t do instead. – more... She looked out for me and rewarded me with products that I had earned. – less
