Good
Sales Person/Owner (Former Employee), Lindenwold, NJ – June 11, 2013
Pros: flexibility, independence
Cons: requires quite a bit of time growing company before any real money is made.
This is a position that people own their own company, but Mary Kay offers excellent guidance to grow your business.

Mary Kay
Consultant (Current Employee), Oregon – May 28, 2013
Typical day pretty easy tell someone about the products. Let them test the products and see if they would like any or to be part of Mary Kay.

With Mary Kay I have learned it's OK to put God 1st, Family 2nd, and Career 3rd.

Management and co-workers are great and bring so much to the table.

Hardest part is the talking to people who may not be the – more... interested in it; Most in enjoyable is it's at my own time. – less

A good company but have to be dedicated
CONSULTANT (Current Employee), Oklahoma – May 15, 2013
Pros: meeting new people, motivating team members.
Cons: spending out of pocket, a lot of driving.
The job is great. You are always meeting new people and keeping up with the next best things. Only downfall I have with it would be that you have to really be dedicated to succeed in selling Mary Kay products. You have to be willing to not only sell, but to spend as well. I wouldn't recommend this to someone that isn't starting out with much money. – more... If you have money to spend and just want a little extra cash or the half off deals, then this is for you. – less

More than just a job
Independent Beauty Consultant (Current Employee), Appleton, WI – May 14, 2013
Pros: discount (50%), you are your own boss, recognition, friends, etc
I love being an Independent Beauty Consultant for Mary Kay. Signing my agreement was one of the best choices I've ever made. You are your own boss and can advance as quick as you want. If you want more hours, you can make it happen. I've made new friends and have learned a lot more about myself. I also like that you actually get recognition for what – more... you accomplish. – less

I love working for Mary Kay because I can make my own hours. The money you make is unlimited and I'm a Senior and Red Jacket Consultant! I love selling because I get to constantly help women feel beautiful. I'm always meeting new recruits and earning extra commission. Mary Kay is a great way to make extra money !

An awesome way to earn extra money
Independent Beauty Consultant (Current Employee), Midland, TX – May 13, 2013
My personal experience with Mary Kay has been a very growing experience. I have grown in self-confidence and made new friends. I learned how to handle difficult situations and learned not to quit. I love helping other women feel beautiful and find a plan B that they need for their family. My Director has been awesome at helping me with my business and – more... showing how to advance myself up the career path. I think the hardest part of being a Mary Kay beauty consultant is getting out of your own way and doing what you need to do to get where you want to be. The most enjoyable part is helping other women. – less

love the flexability of this business
Sales Consultant (Current Employee), Bellevue, NE – May 2, 2013
Pros: products at 50%
Cons: no health care programs yet and you have to push people sometimes
This is a small business, It is up to you on how much time and money you put into it! It is a great way to meet new people and keep them happy in the products they like! The hardest part I think is getting the customers you need to be a people contact person and not be afraid to do so! I still have 50 customers I started with 10 years back!!

Mary Kay Independent Beauty Consultant (Current Employee), Baton Rouge, LA – May 1, 2013
A typical say at work would be because I can access it from home. I learned that you get to meet new people. I am my own management. The hardest part of my job is tring to get people to buy the products.

Too much time, little compensation
consultant (Former Employee), NC – April 27, 2013
Pros: upbeat management team, go getter attitude
Cons: not all its cracked up to be, especially not in my area of the country
Mary Kay as a company has good values and strong views of women working for themselves while helping others. The products while great, are too expensive for the average woman, and if you don't order at least $200 dollars of product you don't receive your consultant discount. Ordering inventory out of pocket is not an option for me because I do not want – more... to be stuck with 600 bucks worth of products that I cannot sell because I am currently unemployed, and my friends and family have a Cover girl and Avon budget these days..lol – less

Beauty Consultant (Current Employee), Painesville, OH – April 3, 2013
Calling all my friends and family to tell them I started my own Mary Kay business and asking them to help me in my path to success.

I learned that if you are going to go into a business, go into one that people are more likely to buy.

My co-workers are the best. They are there to help when needed.

Hardest part of this job was being told I love your – more... product, but it is too expensive.

The most enjoyable part is experimenting with all the new products. – less
