Great place to work if you don't mind being micro-managed
Customer Agent I (Former Employee) –  Upper Marlboro, MDJune 5, 2017
It is a great place to work because it gets your foot in the door for a state job which you are allowed to possibly transfer to after 6 months which is the minimum time for probation but in order to do that you have to be trained on everything first which is hard to do if they are short staffed for all areas.
Pros
All holidays off, good benefits
Cons
Micro managed, never told what you did wrong

Not enough work to do throughout the day
COMPUTER OPERATIONS SPECIALIST (Current Employee) –  Glen Burnie, MDMarch 18, 2017
The job is just a job. Its definitely a great entry-level job to get in the door with the State. I do not like the work schedule because you are considered essential and I do not understand why. Also you will never have weekends off because its a 365, 24/7 environment. Besides the schedule its a great starter job. Its not challenging to me nor is it boosting my resume but I will deal with it until something else comes along.
Pros
Stability
Cons
work schedule, Not enough work throughout the day

Not a good place to work
Customer Service Representative (Former Employee) –  Baltimore, MDDecember 9, 2016
Not a great place for advancement. The only people that advance are the ones that are in the "click" with management. It doesn't matter if you come to work everyday, on time and are dependable. If your not in their mix, you go nowhere.

they discriminate

MBE Officer I (Current Employee) –  Hanover, MDNovember 7, 2016
Family oriented and good company to work for. Just wish they paid what you're worth. It is almost as though you are being penalized for not being with the company for a long time and not glorified for being a talented employee.
Pros
Flexibility
Cons
Salary grades for specific jobs

Great place for mid-level career - not many positions
Statewide Planner (Former Employee) –  Hanover, MDFebruary 16, 2015
Worked temporarily in the planning and capital programming division. Management is great about its employees having a work-life balance and treat all employees as professionals. They expect the job to be done well, but don't micro manage on how to get the job done at all. This is rare at its modal agency, SHA. Pay is also better here than at the modal administrations. Its a small office though and vulnerable to political change. Also, not a place you will gain much recognition in the industry as it plays mostly an administrative role rather than technical role in transportation.
Pros
Awesome work-life balance and decent mid-career level pay
Cons
Vulnerable to political change and not a place to make a name in the industry

Bad place to work
cleaner (Former Employee) –  Baltimore,MarylandFebruary 13, 2015
You will be harassed and threatened by management if you are a probationary employee. Management will do all they can to have you fired to keep you from completing your 90 days of probation because management and supervisor know you have no union representation if you are a probationary employee They will treat you differently from the union employees such as not allowing overtime constant write UPS for minor thing Stay away from MTA if your not a bus driver the shop workers will be harassed
Pros
none
Cons
Harassment work pkace disrespect

BUS OPERATOR (Former Employee) –  Baltimore, MDJune 6, 2014
Typical day - driving the bus.
I learned - that I am a very strong and resilient person! I also learned that even big corporations with a lot of people can lack communication and camaraderie.
Management - No Comment (see above)
Hardest Part - The balancing act. Every man is of themselves, so it makes everyone's life harder!
The most enjoyable part of the job - working independently for the most part, and getting paid every Friday!!
Pros
Nice pay
Cons
Short or no breaks
