Lead Preschool Teacher, Drumlin Farm Preschool, Lincoln, MA - December 22, 2014
Working as a preschool teacher for Mass Audubon at their Drumlin Farm location in Lincoln, MA set me on the path to being a dedicated environmental and nature teacher. The preschool was primarily outdoors, and a large part of the job was designing an engaging science-based curriculum for preschoolers that supported their intellectual curiosity as well their developmental needs. It was challenging and incredibly rewarding. Much of the curriculum focused on what was observable in nature such as migration and plant life, life cycles, farm chores, hands-on exploration and nature play. My co-teachers were dedicated and talented, and we shared our talents to enrich the curriculum, which met and exceeded all MA state standards. I designed a mapping and orienting curriculum for the school which incorporated literature, math, compass use, and art through creating 3-D maps of the farm. Management was supportive, and had a clear vision so we could maintain the excellent quality of education, and the uniqueness of our program.
