Terrible management
SALES ASSOCIATE (Former Employee), Owosso, MI – May 16, 2013
Pros: meeting new people
Cons: rude and terrible management
Sold clothing, shoes, and accessories. Training was long, and supervisor didn't like being asked for help. Co-workers liked to gossip and take sales opprotunities/credit card applications from others. Only enjoyable part of the job was meeting new people.

Super fun and positive atmosphere!
Sales Associate (Current Employee), Albertville, MN – May 16, 2013
Maurices is a great company to work for when youre a young woman getting introduced to retail. Maurices goes above and beyond for the customer and you always make great connections with people. The best customers are the ones that come in with no confidence and they leave with a new wardrobe feeling sexy and confident in thier own skin! Maurices clothing – more... offers a variety of fits and styles for every body shape. Ive worked at two different locations and the management style is different everywhere you go. Some managers are very team oriented and some are more individual. But my fellow co-workers were always super outgoing with a positive attitude. It always made for a fun day on the job! – less

Creating an unforgettable shopping experience.
Assistant Manager (Current Employee), Cedar Rapids, Iowa – May 13, 2013
Pros: customer service, potlucks with the store team
Cons: n/a
Everything at Maurices contributes to excellent customer service. Transferring product from the freight area to the sales floor is the most challenging. Merchandising is a must in dressing customers. When product is placed in a shopable area, its makes it easier to build an outfit. Every day at opening a manager would make a game plan regarding sales – more... goals, current and upcoming promotions, recognitions, new product, and so forth. Product knowledge is a must. Trying on product and mixing and matching departments to build the perfect outfit builds sales and increases productivity. Coaching co-workers provided insight on effective management. The best part of the day is when a customer simply says thank you. When a customer leaves the store satisfied, the job has been accomplished. – less

Fashionable and Hip
Sales Associate (Former Employee), Fort Wayne, IN – May 6, 2013
Pros: discount on my favorite stores clothes
Cons: hours were random and never the same days per week
I would come into work and get to meet new people. Help them buy and pick out clothes, shoes and accessories. Three things I love very much!
I learned that sometimes people don't know what they want and you can help them by offering items.
Management was Great! I became friends with them and felt we could talk about anything.
I also enjoyed my co-workers. – more... Although it was mostly just me and the manager at times because two people on average was all it took to run the store.
The hardest part of the job was to offer our credit card and describe all the benefits to people who were clearly not interested.
The most enjoyable part of the job was working with new people and helping them feel beautiful about themselves. – less

Fun and fast paced environment
Sales Associate (Former Employee), Ottawa, IL – April 28, 2013
Pros: fun environment
Cons: working weekends and low pay
Maurices is by far one of the best companies I have worked for. The management located in Ottawa, IL is amazing. Maurices also is an awesome company to work for because they have many incentives! Pay becomes better as you advance in the company.

Great part-time job
Assistant Manager (Former Employee), Crystal City, MO – April 15, 2013
Pros: associate discount
Cons: weekend schedule
A fun environment to work in and the company was supportive of its employees. Advancement opportunities were there if you were willing to put in the time and travel. The only downside of the job was the weekend schedule requirement.

Worst Management staff EVER
part time sales (Former Employee), oneonta ny – April 10, 2013
Cons: having to put up with the store manager
I worked at the Maurices in Oneonta NY for almost a year. My numbers were the best. I was usually the top net producer as well as having the highest amount of credit cards. The two mangers, the store manager and the first assistants are not capalbe of running the store. They are unprofessional and jealous. I won a trip for being a great sales person – more... and they came up with unbelievable lies to get me fired. Never work at the Oneonta Maurices, they SUCK. – less

Fun Workplace If The Blame Doesn't Get Set On You!
Sales Associate/Sales Associate Manager (Former Employee), Minnesota/Iowa – April 7, 2013
Pros: good discount, bonus' if you and your team met goals, fun place to work
Cons: caddy girls, caddy bosses, alot of backstabbing!
I have worked in two different Maurices. The one I started in I was a sales associate part-time and I loved most of the girls there. My boss was amazing and always gave us a good job! The first assistant on the other hand, thought she was better than everyone else, and if you got on her bad side, you and the customers would hear it....(she's not there – more... anymore) very unprofessional. So I decided to go somewhere different and became a Full Time Associate Manager. All was well until the caddy girl drama started. I was one just to shut my mouth... but when your boss goes to your previous boss when on a trip for work saying how I'm a bad employee???? c'mon now!! The only reason she thought I was a bad employee is because she would never show up to work on time and after the 3rd week of this, I called our DM.... she never followed policies and procedures....I would work my butt off trying to meet our goals and a couple other workers didn't care. And at Maurices, If you dont meet your goals, you don't get your bonus or stoked for 7!! I taught them how to do many things from what I learned at my old store, and they still did it the wrong way, until the DM came and they failed a visit. I loved working at Maurices and I loved the company. I would suggest that you go into the store as a customer before you even think about applying and get a good taste as to what you're in for!! – less

Very Stressful
assistant manager (Former Employee), Arkansas – April 5, 2013
Pros: discount
Cons: bad management, very untruthful, not family oriented
As my first job I was super excited to be working in a fun upbeat enviorment. At first, I couldn't have asked for anything better. I loved my job. Just three short months later I was offered the assistant manager position. I thought it was going to be just as amazing as being an associate. I had always heard the other managers complaining but I thought – more... they were being dramatic. However, I was in for a rude awakening. My store manager was very laid back I thought it was a great quality but, I felt like everything ended up falling on my shoulders. I was the girl that would do it if no one else did. I finally got sick of my manager not doing her job and coming in "high" everyday so I call my district manager. My store manager was new but knew better then to sit back and let everyone else do her work. So my district manager didn't take care of anything but ended up firing my first assistant. I was lost. I ended up work three weeks straight so my store manager could go on vacation and never even heard a thank you. She even changed my hours so it looked like I wasn't working that much because I wasn't even 18 yet. Needless to say I will never work for another Maurices in my life time. Only benefit was the discount. I got cheated out of countless hours to keep my manager from getting in trouble. – less

Pros: discounts
Cons: n/a
A typical day would be the mid day rush! Love when customers shop on their lunch breaks!
I learned how to dress casual!
Management were fantastic!
My co-workers were very nice.
The hardest part is not finding a garment in the customer's size.
The most enjoyable part would be everyday!

Great atmosphere to work, full of positive energy
Full-time assistant manager (Current Employee), Ames, IA – March 26, 2013
Pros: discount clothing, new friends, monthly snack boxes
Cons: time off, hours are mainly weekend and nights
A typical day includes things like
-working with customers
-checking customers out at register
-folding clothes
-answering phones
-putting clothes away
-A lot of walking around

I learned how to work with different kinds of people and the different types of clothing

Being in management at Maurice's we were held very responsible for how well the store – more... was doing

Co-workers were amazing

Most challenging thing is adjusting to different personalities

atmosphere and the "work family" you experience is the best part! – less

Retail
Sales Associate (Former Employee), Neosho, MO – March 24, 2013
A typical work day included helping shoppers find the perfect look for them. I would also open and process freight, set POV’s, rearrange items, and process inter-store transfers. I did not get much management experience from working at Maurice’s; just being a sales associate. My co-workers were great to work with. I still have friends from Maurice’s. – more... The hardest part of the job was trying to get as much as I wanted to get accomplished in a four hour shift. The best part of the job was creating great customer connections. They would come in and specifically ask for me to help them. – less

Fun atmosphere with steady hours
Customer service (Former Employee), McMinnville, OR – March 21, 2013
Pros: good discount, fun atmosphere, reliable hours
Cons: lots of time spent on my feet, difficult customers
Usually at work I would go through new inventory and do what I needed to do and get it on the floor. I learned alot of personal and customer service skills. I liked the managers there, they were friendly and laid back, but also made sure the job got done. My coworkers were the same way and easy to get along with. The hardest part of the job was spending – more... alot of time on my feet and the most enjoyable was getting a 40 percent discount on all the clothes. – less

Great company
Store manager (Former Employee), ohio – March 20, 2013
Pros: environment, fashion, discount, customers
Cons: no breaks, upper management, overworked store managers
I was with the company for 11 years. LOVED my job until my last DM took over the district I was in. Job was threatened weekly for no reasons even if goals were met, her expectations were unrealistic, and she would brag about her perfect life and how much she knows since she was a DM and she was extremely condensending. The company is a great company – more... to work for, but certain dms are given way too much power and they are not fair and there is nothing you can do about it. The workload is a bit much for the pay compared to most retail stores, but it is by far the funnest retail clothing company to work for. The environment is great through the stores AND the home office. However, the focus changed when the company really starting growing... with visual being a bigger priority than customer service but yet no hours were given to help with all the visual demands as they increased, and you still had to make sure service wasnt compromised. If you asked any store manager, they would tell you the same thing. – less

Think twice
Sales associate (Current Employee), Central Kansas – March 17, 2013
After leaving a career in healthcare (as a Registered Nurse) to pursue a career in customer service/retail, I was very disappointed in Maurices when i was offered a position as a sales associate at $8.40/hour (on the "high end of the pay scale", as I was told). The manager has proven to be condescending and passive aggressive. Several days after my – more... start date, I came in to work to be abruptly confronted by the manager who said "what time do you have?", I said "1:01" (I was scheduled to be at work at 1:00). The manager said "Exactly, you are supposed to be here at 1:00. One minute becomes five minutes becomes 15 minutes. If you weren't a new employee, I would write you up". At the interview I was instructed that I must never clock in before 3 minutes until the start of my shift. Therefore, there must be no conclusion other than that I must arrive at work between 3 'til and on the hour (even though some peoples' watches differ by often times at least 2-3 minutes). Maurices is a perfect example of how NOT to manage a property. Managers need to understand that if they can't retain an employee for more than 6 months, it has everything to do with the management, NOT the employee. Maurice also promotes a very pushy sales policy. You will leave every day feeling like a "pushy salesperson". I currently still work at a Maurices in centrtal Kansas and am only waiting until a better job opportunity presents itself to put in my notice. Ultimately, Mauricues takes advantage of their employees (who typically work hard) just to make a dollar. A shameful place to work for. The manager at my location seems to have been consumed by her desire to submit her authority to those she deems inferior to her. I encourage all those who desire a career in retail to think twice before accepting an offer from Maurices. – less
