Real Estate Law Firm
Legal secretary (Former Employee), San Diego, CAJanuary 26, 2014
Pros: lunch was paid if you worked through.
Cons: office manager demonstrated lack of expertise
I worked from 8:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. I learned the importance of client service and how to produce an excellent work product under pressure. There was little camaraderie between staff members and management was aloof. The hardest part of the job was dealing with the petty controlling management issues any time you thought outside of the box. The – more... most enjoyable part of the job was leaving it. – less

Amazing Camaraderie; Otherwise Typical DC Firm
Paralegal (Former Employee), Washington, DCJanuary 7, 2014
If you're going to *have* to spend 8 hours a day around a group of peole, this is a group I'd choose. The environment, for the most part, is warm and friendly.

As for the types of work and work loads, I'd say that they were typical for DC firms of comparable size. From my experience, the major difference was the opportunity for paralegals to have substantive – more... exposure to clients and court proceedings (i.e., being involved in the meetings or hearings).

All in all, a solidly good place...but not perfect. – less

Team of Basketball Players
Help Desk Specialist (Former Employee), Washington, DCJuly 22, 2013
Pros: bonus, breakfast, lunch, employee wine and cheese
Cons: no breaks, work through lunch, come in early after leaving 2:00 am, sometimes working overnight
A typical day at McKenna was extremely busy and fast paced
Learned a dozen ways to get work done on a network that would constantly go down
The work environment was stressful but rewarding
My co-workers in the Help Desk Center was like family, we worked as a team, we were all as one
The hardest part of the job was making sure deadlines were met, documents – more... were filed in the court on time especially when there were issues with the network
The most enjoyable part was doing my job and being able to satisfy the attorneys – less

High stress and no fun
Legal Secretary (Former Employee), Atlanta, GAMay 14, 2012
Pros: salary/benefits
Cons: no work/life balance
High stress environment with no opportunity for advancement. Firm has changed from the great law firm it used to be 6 years ago before it merged. Bonus, holiday celebrations and staff parties were all cut, while work loads were increased, result was a real dive in staff moral. As Long, Aldridge & Norman, this used to be one of the best places to work – more... in Atlanta. – less

offers automation training to legal secretaries & other training. Not much room for growth as support staff.
