Media Sales Plus is seeking a strategic and tactically driven Sales Manager to build and lead a team of specialists in the obituaries, In Memoriam, and legal notices with a primary focus of delivering outstanding quality of work in this highly specialized area of our business.

We currently provide our comprehensive services to over 100 newspaper publishing titles across North America including: The New York Times, The Washington Post, Toronto Star, Chicago Sun-Times Media Group, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Toledo Blade, The Oregonian, Press of Atlantic City, Philadelphia Inquirer and Daily News.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide overall leadership and guidance for the Notice Specialists ensuring that the accuracy of work meets or exceeds performance standards
  • Responsible to ensure the achievement of meeting or exceeding defined monthly Service Level Agreements
  • Accountable for providing performance metrics through generated weekly and monthly reports on SLA’s and targets
  • Improve quality and reduce deficiencies with a plan of continuous quality improvement
  • Develop and maintain effective client relationships including ongoing improvement of products and services
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with advertisers and funeral home directors
  • Provide coaching and feedback for Notices staff to support talent development and ensure they maximize revenue while maintaining a high level of quality and customer service standards
  • Review errors with Team and involve Quality Control, Client Services and Training Departments in corrective steps as needed
  • Facilitate the coaching and development of Team associates including accommodations for exemplary service, progressive discipline actions (including written warnings) and assist in terminations
  • Actively maintain a presence on the sales floor
  • Manage individual Performance Feedback with all Team associates on a weekly basis
  • Assist in identifying and making recommendations for product and service training for specialists by monitoring calls as necessary
  • Understand all facets of the program and ability to perform all functions of the team
  • Disseminate new product and market information to agents as supplied by the media partner
  • Responsible for setting objectives and goals for individual agents as well as the overall team
  • Work closely with other teams to identify best practices and challenges

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Bachelors Degree in Business Administration, English or Journalism is desired or the equivalent of education and experience in a related field
  • Excellent writing and grammar skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and analytical skills, including proficiency in MS PowerPoint, Excel and Word
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast paced deadline sensitive environment
  • Experience in a contact/sales center environment is preferred
  • Excellent leadership skills and experience managing sales/customer service staff to achieve revenue goals and high performance
  • Must have a proven track record of leading a team to achieve positive results through efficient and effective business processes, quality and creative ways in developing new ideas to generate revenue
  • Exceptional coaching and team building skills required
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills and ability to promote and sell concepts to team and clients
  • Basic understanding of finance (financial models, interpreting documents, etc.)
  • Must be a strong learner who is highly motivated and will take ownership and accountability for all overall company goals and objectives
  • Self-starter, be able to work independently and take initiatives

Language Skills

  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret documents
  • Ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints
  • Ability to bring documentation of controversial or complex matters to the attention of the Sales Center Operations Manager
