Long Island Based Medical Malpractice Insurance Company seeks RN’s and Healthcare Professionals with previous hospital Risk & Quality Management and/or Patient Safety.

This position will maintain a home based office in the central NY or upstate NY area and provide overall client support to healthcare facilities principally in those areas. Responsible for conducting initial & follow up surveys, developing educational and training programs, providing resources and research for healthcare clients. Ideal candidate will reside in Central NY area and be willing to travel upstate NY with some overnight travel and occasional early morning and evening hours. Previous hospital Risk and Quality Management and/or Patient Safety required. Nursing background preferred.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Conducts surveys of hospitals, nursing homes and other health care facilities in accordance with established standards as assigned
  • Prepare reports of survey findings in accordance with established standards
  • Act as a resource, consultant and educator for patient safety and risk management issues
  • May provide education to healthcare professions in insured hospitals, nursing homes and other healthcare facilities
  • Serve as liaison between survey consultants and clients
  • Maintain awareness of legislative and regulatory activities related to healthcare risk management
  • Assist the Hospital Claims Coordinator in providing risk management support to clients
  • Assist in responding to and resolving client inquiries
  • Make recommendations for educational training based on claims reviews and implement same as appropriate
  • Assist the Hospital Claims Coordinator in the development and planning of educational seminars and materials
  • Participate in client meetings and projects, as necessary
  • Assist the Director and the Hospital Claims Coordinator in the development of loss control strategies based on trends and data collected from review of claims data
  • Coordinate host web-based educational programs
  • Develop ongoing risk management survey tools
  • Assist the facility in complying with survey recommendations, as needed
  • Attend conferences and seminars as required
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in healthcare preferred
  • 3+ years healthcare experience in Risk Management, Quality Management and/or Claims Management. Nursing background preferred
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, Power Point
  • Ability to travel throughout New York State. Some overnight travel required
  • Experience in designing Risk Management educational programs
  • Must be an independent worker who is detail oriented and have good organizational skills
  • Ability to work from home while maintaining compliance with established office protocol
