Associate Scientist I (Current Employee), Gaithersburg, MD – August 21, 2013
Great benefits and in my experience a mix of quality and incompetent managers. Some of the people are friendly but the overall culture seems pretty divisive and unfriendly. There is a lot of great technology and opportunity within the company that could lead to a prosperous future if they are successful.
Pros: the fast paced environment of medimmune always kept me on my toes and my mind on innovative wheels.
Cons: if i hadn't moved states due to personal reasons i would have never left what i had helped build.
When I was little I wanted to become a fighter jet pilot. Full of zest and armor, excitement and willing to face any obstacle. When I joined Medimmune as a research associate I never knew I was on my way of becoming just that. I started at Medi in the Lab operations department as a tissue culture specialist. The every day interactions with the scientists – more... helped me build a strong list of their needs, demands and requests for cell culture as well as cell testing. I worked very hard to form a much needed tissue culture core group in the R&D department of Medimmune. This group provided frozen as well as live cells to the scientists so they can concentrate more on their assays and innovation and not have to worry about cell culture. As the group progressed we started providing several cell tests as well. Being a manager of this group every day had a surprise element to it. With customer satisfaction and cell culture quality as our groups ultimate goal; we always had bullets to dodge, solutions to figure out, deadlines to meet and lab fires to put out. I took all of these challenges as the most enjoyable part of my job. – less
A great experience that will push you to develop in many areas
Senior Supervisor (Former Employee), Philadelphia, PA – July 19, 2013
Pros: excellent compensation and benefits
Cons: work/life balance during the mfg season
Medimmune was a great experience for me. The environment was full of kind hard working people, and you had the camaraderie of a small business when working there. Everyone said hello to each other and you always felt welcomed.
It was very fast paced and challenging environment, because the organization was on a developmental path toward world class – more... with only a limited number of employees driving to satisfy global demands for our product. In order to be successful within the organization, you had to be willing to wear many hats.
This was very beneficial for me from a professional development standpoint, as it allowed me to delve into areas of the business such as the quality department, that I would not have otherwise.
Overall, it was an excellent experience for me and I would recommend them as an employer to anyone. – less
Associate Marathoner in Rat Race (Current Employee), Gaithersburg, MD – June 24, 2013
Pros: great benefits
Cons: good luck moving up in the world...
MedImmune pays well and does interesting work. However, their personal development, career development, and leadership development is lacking for those below the level of director. If you want to advance your career you will need to change groups or leave the company.
Associate Scientist I (Current Employee), Gaithersburg, MD – May 14, 2013
Pros: learning experience is great!
Busy day at work and learn new techniques everyday! A very stimulating and engaging environment to grow and develop. Co-workers are supportive and helpful and the most hardest part is overcoming challenges in a short period of time. The most enjoyable part is learning new things and solving problems in a logical and practical manner.
Associate Scientist I (Current Employee), Gaithersburg, MD – April 2, 2013
Pros: new and exciting projects, loads of employees perks, great compensation
Cons: high work load, management direction not well understood
MedImmune has been a great place to work. However as the company has grown there have been some difficulties with integration after being purchased by Astra Zeneca. Day to day the environment is great, and the people are excellent co-workers. Work-life balance can be hard to manage at times due to work load, but it has not been unbearable. MedImmune – more... is making strides to ensure all it's employees are content and offer many perks. – less

Commercial Training and Development Coordinator II (Current Employee), Gaithersburg, MD – January 13, 2013
Pros: great products and every so often you might get free lunch
Cons: there are times you work very, very long hours.
Have been working for MedImmune for 6 1/2. It's been a great place to work although I feel it is time for a change. One of the reasons, I have loved coming to work is that my boss is friendly and understands work/life balance. Everyone in our department cares about each other.
Executive (Former Employee), Maryland – January 1, 2013
Pros: employees/management is overpaid
Cons: the place and people eat you alive.
Even though they strive on work/life balance, there is no such thing for parents with young children. They will fire you if you take time off for your kids' health. HR is useless, they work for 'the company' and 'upper management' not for individual contributor. Dare not go to HR with an issue about your boss, etc. You will be put on a watch list and – more... the next thing you know you are under the microscope. No integrity, no loyalty. Peers and supervisors will literally stab you in the back, strip the shirt off your back to 'get in with the boss' With Medimmune now under Aztraneca, its all about keeping 'their' job. You are worked to death, you put your best foot forward, but no recognition. Toxic environment, unhealthy and discrimation is what you get when you accept employment here. – less
