Pros: give you constructive criticism you can improve on, many employee recognitions, great learning/growing experience
Cons: not really a con, but, be mature, your shift is not ruled by breaks, not by when you want it, field personnel can transfer and promote, dispacth personnel cannot transfer out of dispatch, that is not very fair.
I worked at Medstar as a dispatcher. Although I worked 12 hour weekend shifts, the 2-6 hour shifts Monday and Tuesday made it quite a do-able schedule! F/T in dispacth, was considered 4-12 hr shifts. Although I worked 36 hrs, I was considered P/T, so no benefits. Most facilities I've worked for in the past considered anything over 32 hrs/week F/T. Other
– more... than that, it honestly was a fantastic learing experience. Managers fully expected you to give 100% every minute of every shift, as it should be. They realize we're human, and sometimes make mistakes. They just expect you to be the professional aduly you are, and own the error and speak of how you can improve that for the next instance. When I left, I told the HR Mgr, "There hasn't been one single day when I haven't taken something with me". Yes, learn on a daily basis. That's a good thing; trust me.
