ILLUSTRATOR POSITION
Melissa & Doug, a leading children’s toy company, is looking for a highly talented Illustrator with a proven track record to join their team. You should have 5 years of experience, preferably in the children’s market, with excellent conceptual, design and development skills. You will be responsible for creating a range of timeless children’s products geared to the specialty and mass markets, including toys, arts and crafts, activity books, puzzles and games.
You should have a strong graphic eye, the ability to design age-appropriate products and an understanding of what makes products market-viable. Your main responsibilities will be creating original illustrations in a variety of styles to fit mostly paper-based and wood products. You may also need to design related packaging, branding and logos. You should be a self-motivator with lots of enthusiasm and a drive to deliver results. The ability to execute under tight deadlines is a key.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Conceptualize innovative new products, line extensions or entire product categories.
Render designs quickly to present to and get approval from management team.
Create and apply original illustrations.
Develop logos, packaging, and any necessary branding materials, if needed.
Create and illustrate any needed product instructions.
Develop an entire line of products as a collection.
Deliver accurate specifications and drawings accounting for cost, ergonomic and manufacturing limitations.
Communicate with product development, safety and quality control teams throughout design process, including reviewing and proofing product and packaging.
Specific Skills
BFA or equivalent degree in Illustration required.
5 years in children’s product design.
Superb ideation and conceptual skills.
Excellent sketching skills to quickly communicate ideas.
Ability to quickly create original characters and artwork in Illustrator.
Creative problem solving skills.
Superb drawing skills combined with a strong attention to detail.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Advanced command of Adobe Suite: Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign.
Ability to work in a PC-based environment a plus.
