Don't get sucked in by the pay rate
Product Development Manager (Former Employee) –  Wilton, CTAugust 18, 2016
if you like 60 hour weeks, demeaning bosses who publicly berate you, antiquated redundant systems, and zero opportunity for growth, this is the place for you. Hours are set, company wide, 8am to 6pm, 30 minute lunch. Someone else said it- a well-paid prison sentence.
Pros
you can wear shorts and tank tops to work?
Cons
long hours, terrible work culture

It was like a well paid prison sentence.
Customer Marketing (Former Employee) –  Norwalk, CTApril 6, 2016
They make great toys and they are very difficult to work for.

It was fun at first but it didnt last long. It gets old fast- they are extremely regimented and you get a catered lunch every day- but they take it out of your paycheck! You're being watched. There are multiple cameras on you from all angles. It's pretty mind-messing environment. Many who left before me were severely damaged by the environment. They watch you with cameras- they monitor your phone calls- you cannot have any cell phones and if they catch you- and they've got cameras on you- they threaten you. So god forbid something real life happens like you get a call from your child's school nurse. The owners- private company- completely crazy egomaniacs. Owner talks to staff with bullhorn.
Pros
Karaoke
Cons
Prison environment, cameras monitoring your every move, tyrannical senior management with bad temper

If you want to be glued to your chair not able to go to the restroom and have a lausy 30min break after talking on the phone and being watched all day long , you are more than welcome to work there.

Easy going work place with cross training opportunity.
Inventory (Current Employee) –  Tracy, CAAugust 11, 2015
Honestly not the best work place if you are looking for growth with the company. Hired with an agency, so you don't get benefits and minimum wage pay with no opportunity to get a raise.
Pros
Cross training, business hours
Cons
Hired through agency, no good benefits, minimum wage

Little Care if any of the employees overall happiness
Toy Designer & Illustrator (Current Employee) –  Wilton, CTJuly 29, 2015
They treat the employees like children that are poorly behaved. Keeping them on camera from all angles. Their management is based on keeping everyone afraid at any means. They threaten people's jobs regularly if you do not meet the high standards they expect of everyone.
Pros
discount on toys
Cons
half hour lunch, 8:00-6:00 hours, poor healthcare and dental, questions are frowned upon.

The owners should be in jail
International Sales Manager (Former Employee) –  Wilton, CTJuly 28, 2015
Degrading and demeaning hiring tactics such as making potentials sing karaoke. You will also most likely spend at least 2-3 full days testing and filling out forms while people intentionally come up behind you screaming in your ears trying to distract you.

Once hired you will be paid peanuts while working in a cramped environment with no chance of advancement or hope for the future.

They are seeking extremely desperate people they can manipulate and tear down. Imagine a couple of pimps working together and hanging around low income neighborhood elementary schools and you're on the right track.
Pros
Office location
Cons
Concentration camp mentality, Toy products which would appeal to kids in the roaring 20s. Too much more to list.

My past work history has been light industrial warehouse work. I performed various jobs from picking orders to shipping to various stores. We had tree volleyball for us to have fun at the warehouse.

Recruitment... get your act together.
Applicant (Former Employee) –  Not YetDecember 10, 2014
I Have spoken with a number of more than qualified applicants to to this company and they all say the same thing... "They never get back to you." If your company is up to date and somewhere close to being professional, it is currently common place to get back to all applicants in a timely fashion. Even a month removed removed would still be considered professional. At Melissa and Doug though, they don't mind posting a job and then only responding to one or two potential candidates. Bad form.
Pros
toys.
Cons
immature business structure

A horror show...
Illustrator (Former Employee) –  Norwalk ctMarch 30, 2014
This company is a gulag, a nightmare of penny pinching with little respect offered to the many talented, under payed artists. Oddly enough management does well by exploiting creatives and most of the toy line offered here is a bit dated, still advertising helps with that aspect. Fairly aggressive branding etc. but are wood block toys really still the rage? Other items are offered too but this place is a modern day version of NYC's Triangle Factory.
Pros
they have a bathroom and let you have a break every third day.
Cons
all cons... run!

Fun, chaotic environment with extremely long days
Customer Relations/Sales Support (Current Employee) –  Wilton, CTSeptember 9, 2013
I have learned how to complete several different tasks, along with managing relationships with consumers and customers. The hardest part of the job is the long hours and the knowledge that there is no room for growth within the company. The most enjoyable part of the job is the people you work with day after day.
