Working at Men's Wearhouse

  • Houston Candidate in Houston, Texas 3 months ago
I was left with the impression that The Men's Warehouse has incompetent recruiters/H.R personnel. Coming from an H.R background- a phone screen is a way of SCREENING candidates. This way you can assess if the person is qualified to come in for an interview, and you avoid wasting your time as a recruiter, and the applicant’s time. I was called for an administrative H.R position on January 30, 2012 with the Men's Warehouse- I was on the phone for a good while answering questions for a recruiter. One specific question was: How many people did you support. After having answered the recruiter’s questions- she came to the conclusion that I would be a good candidate to bring an interview. It took about 45 minutes to get to the offices over in the west chase area (beltway) I sat for about 15 minutes. I was greeted and brought up for my interview- the lady whom I met with in for was the person I would be working with directly- short haired blond woman, she asked me how many people I had supported and then said she needed someone who could support a larger group, she said they support about 200 or so people there and that was pretty much the end of my interview. That was a specific question that the recruiter asked me, I feel there is a great lack of communication between their H.R personnel and recruiters and I think that they should be considerate of people's time and well money. The recruiter took the time to schedule my interview, send me all the details, clear her H.R persons schedule, I wasted my time, and money driving 45 minutes for an opportunity that was never available to me. All of this could have been avoided if The Men’s Warehouse would hold their employees to a higher standard. Had I brought in a candidate, as I was brought in and wasted my H.R Directors time, I would certainly be asked questions as to whether or not I understood what I was doing, and what specifically I was recruiting for. It certainly reflects a very lazy attitude about how the company allow

Every business has its own style. What is the office environment and culture like at MEN'S WEARHOUSE? Are people dressed in business casual, jeans and t-shirts, or full-on suits? Do folks get together for Friday happy hours and friendly get-togethers? What is a typical day in the life of an employee at MEN'S WEARHOUSE?

You can't teach an old Dog new tricks. So don't hire old dogs... only hire and PROMOTE non-experienced sales staff.

Do you work at MEN'S WEARHOUSE? How did you find the job? How did you get that first interview? Any advice for someone trying to get in?

I and my boyfriend are both previous employees of men's wearhouse. I quit after 6 months of working for them because the manager showed no concern for how hard the other employees work, not only that but he would show major favortism to certain people and would allow them to run errands on the clock, take 2 hour lunch brakes, etc. Also, I found that there is a lot of nepatism going on in this company especially in the store that I worked in. Almost everyone who works there is related to each other. this store was always under staffed and employees over worked. often times my boyfriend who was a tailor there for over 4 years, would have to spend his time out on the sales floor instead of back in the tailor shop doing his work because there were not enough staff for the sales floor. One day he got behind on his tailor work because he was out on the sales floor and because he got behind the manager suspended him from work with out pay. He is a hard working man and is not the only tailor there that gets behind on the work, but because the other tailors were so favored he is the only one who gets in trouble. and now they have decided to fire a hard working man. So if any of you are considering working for Men's Wearhouse I would think about whether or not you want to work for such a poorly managed company and if you want to be treated like they have treated so many other people who have worked there. sincerely....

It's always hard to know what to expect when going in for that interview -- and preparation can make all the difference. What is the interview process like at MEN'S WEARHOUSE? Any advice on striking the right note?

What do you think -- is this company going to survive and thrive? Are they looking to expand their staff, or do you think layoffs are inevitable? How does MEN'S WEARHOUSE stack up against the competition?
